In the city where TV show Portlandia popularized the phrase put a bird on it, one flew right up to the Democratic presidential candidates podium
Bernie Sanders: I think there may be some symbolism here. I know it doesnt look like it, but that bird is really a dove asking us world peace.

A tiny bird interrupted presidential candidate Bernie Sanders rally in Portland, Oregon, on Friday afternoon, to the thunderous applause of the crowd.
Welcome to Portland, senator Sanders, where the sketch comedy show Portlandia popularized the refrain put a bird on it as a way to parody the citys hipster aesthetic.

I'm not very computer literate, and I don't tweet. But could you tell me how to save a gif from TWITTER. When I right-click on a jpg, I get the choice to "save image as" but no such choice exists when I right-click on gifs that I see on Twitter. Also, when I right-click on videos on Twitter, it doesn't offer me the URL address.
thanks

(51,129 posts)Bring up the menu (right-click the image) and select "Copy image location" and just paste that in DU. Do a preview to make sure it is an image that displays in DU.
Some images in the feed need to be followed back to the poster. Click the time stamp to bring that forward.
Videos can be pasted in if YouTubes, so just grab their URL from the share tab below the video. Find a YouTube already embedded? Just open it in YouTube first so you have that available.

I get only these choices when I right-click on GIFS on Twitter:
Save Page AS
View Background Image
Select All
This Frame
View Page Source
View Page Info
Inspect Element
(and I have the same problem saving GIFS from Facebook)

(268,968 posts)Its hard to find anything more heartwarming than this. During Bernie Sanders rally in Portland on Friday, the crowd started laughing about a little birds antics. But then when Sanders started talking about the bird, it landed on his podium, seemingly endorsing his presidential candidacy. The crowd went absolutely wild.
The bird stuck around for awhile. Sanders later joked that the bird was a really a dove asking that they end all war. The crowd cheered and the Internet has been going wild ever since. Fans even created a #BirdieSanders hashtag to commemorate the rare heartwarming moment in the middle of what has been a pretty crazy presidential race.

(17,199 posts)I just wish I knew how to save GIFS from ANY Twitter page. I don't tweet but I do from time to time look at Twitter pages and I've only been able to save JPG images, never GIFS. I wish I knew how others have been able to save GIFS on Twitter.
(I think I'll pose this question in a thread of my own, but I'm not sure what's the proper forum to do so. Maybe "The Lounge"?)

(3,598 posts)apart from the pure joy of everyone seeing it live, is Bernie's ability to be right there, in the moment, letting it happen. He didn't ignore it so he could stick to a script, he let it be, and let his own delight shine.

(14,177 posts)My first thought was about how joyous the crowd was when the bird showed up. They were absolutely love struck. And that is how I feel when I see birds flying about the grocery it's happened about 3 times it's cool watching them. I know they will get out eventually cuz they will at the very least trip the security system alarm and a manager will have to see that they find a safe way out. Anyway, look how happy everyone is they are really really happy and it doesn't matter for that moment what the issues are we can deal with that later, right now there is something bigger to think about and that is our connection to all living things.
malaise
(268,968 posts)It was a truly beautiful moment

(14,177 posts)it was like watching children playing. I felt very young myself watching that and I am not really all that young. I think moments like that reveal what a person really is deep down. It might not even be how they are most the time maybe most the time people think they are surly or something but when they see a bird, a dog, a kitten, or a squirrel or whatever they smile big and in that moment they are very happy I think that is what they really are despite how others might see them. Maybe they just need more nature walks to be happier on the outside too.
