http://www.rawstory.com/2016/03/andrea-mitchell-rips-trumps-foreign-policy-scam-hes-uneducated-about-any-part-of-the-world/It is remarkable, Mitchell told Meet the Press host Chuck Todd. And when he doesnt know something, he just changes the subject, and makes it all about himself.
On national security, its very noticeable, especially to your ears and mine, Todd agreed.
Absolutely. And this was a week where he could have gone after President Obama, arguably, Mitchell noted. Theres a lot happening, and the president has some vulnerabilities, so does Hillary Clinton. But instead, hes all over the lot.

(14,574 posts)Your candidate is a bit too hawkish for my tastes, especially since that sad day when I found out through one of her released emails that she convinced a reluctant Obama to bomb Libya and do a regime change there.
Gosh, that worked out real well, didn't it?

(942 posts)somehow, "climate change" is causing home grown terrorists in europe, the UK and USA/Canada to act out.

(65,357 posts)extended and anomalous drought sent many rural dwellers to the capital, where the government responded with brutal force to their initially peaceful protests demanding assistance, so that peaceful protesters became less peaceful.
Eventually, of course, the religious fanatics took over the protest/resistance movement, and then the US started blindly arming anyone and everyone that the politicians could imagine (or pretend) were "freedom fighters" (like the Contras were "freedom fighters"--right).
Then the jihadis who had taken over some of the resistance groups morphed into ISIS, with organizing and strategizing expertise provided by bitter former Iraqi army officers who had been abruptly dumped and left seething and without position, honor, or income after the US invaded Iraq.
Ta-Da! "Six degrees of Kevin Climate Change."
On Edit: Do I need to point out that the influx of Syrian refugees into Europe, the sexual assaults on women, and the most recent Isis inspired or claimed terrorist attacks in Europe can also be traced back to the Syrian civil war (and, of course, also to the ill-considered and illegal US invasion of Iraq in 2003)?

(942 posts)but what did "climate change" have to do with that soldier beheaded in England, or Charlie Hebdo, or the Paris attacks, or Major Hassan, or Brussels ?
what about San Bernardino (was it the drought that drove them to it?)

(65,357 posts)in which the terrorists specifically claimed to be acting on behalf of ISIS (though they might just have been "ISIS inspired" . Even our San Bernadino terrorists were just ISIS inspired rather than actual ISIS.
My point is that it is wrong to scoff at Bernie for linking some terrorism and the current refugee crisis (plus its consequences) to climate change, because climate change is definitely not just a factor, but a major factor.
In fact, his awareness of these connections suggests a deep understanding that is all too often missing in the way our usual suspects--oops, I mean leaders--think of foreign policy.

(34,661 posts)over what Chuckie Toad or Mrs. Greenjeans argue about. We Dems are all in this boat, and the White House is the prize. Number one,Mrs Greenjeans will always look for a hook to slam Obama, and to think He and Mr.Kerry have had one hellva positive week. Hey our spooks notified France and Belgium as to the who what and where of these six terrorist and the Belgium spooks dropped the ball. Bush and Cheney as well as Wolfawitz created this nightmare. The questions to be asked is did Trump back Bush and Cheney in the creation of ISIL and other Terrorist groups? As far as Chuckie Toad goes,he has his head up the RNC's butt so far that there going to have to get a tow truck to pull him out.

(22,651 posts)If you trace the history of the United States vis a vis Latin America and Central America, there has never been a time where a country made a revolution for the poor people where it was not overthrown by the CIA or the United States government, or the marines. Salvador Allende was democratically elected by the people of Chile. He made the mistake of believing that his job as president of that country was to represent the people of Chile. And he did his best. And he was overthrown by the CIA.
So the interesting question is why does the United States government think, whether its Nicaragua or any other country in Latin or Central America that it has the right to overthrow those governments?

(332 posts)But at least I can tell you a little bit about what's going on the world . Besides the recent terror attacks in Brussels and Pakistan, there's still the China building their artificial islands in the disputed Spartley region in the South China Sea, so now the entire region is asking the US to keep a good naval presence there . If the US were to adopt The Donald " America First" mindset, Japan and South Korea would practically see the alliance dissolved and left to fend for themselves . China and North Korea would have a field day taking their revenge on Japan

(332 posts)None of those three countries like each other to say the least . After the countless crimes committed by Imperial Japanese forces over 100 years ago, North Korea and China would love to see the US abandon Japan for themselves. And a whole lot of global trade ships from that region too !

(942 posts)(borrow money actually) to maintain an international trading system which is actually hurting the US economy ?
If you think the current trade arrangements are hurting the US economy, which all the major candidates in both parties agree, as well as big majorities of voters (both parties), it is insane for the US to be subsidizing the seurity of such a system.
Angel Martin
(942 posts)to subsidize the security of these countries for ever, because they won't grow up and live peaceably.
France and Germany and France and the UK have managed it, and I think if the asians made the effort, they could do the same.

These days, their job is to promote the spectacle, no matter the harm done to the body politic.
Even the CEO of CBS said publicly that Trump is "hurting America," but is great for business.
These people put profit uber alles. Just like they gave a pass to BushCo and its Accomplished Mission, they'll give it to Trump and any other m'f'ing charlatan.

The media are definitely complicit in the rise of this monster, and for them to now act all scared and concerned is just a bunch of shit.

So discerning of him and Andrea. (Why the latter is on TV is absurd. Of course, that could be applied to both.)
Hey Chuck, some other folk have noticed that too.
But given the silence on this subject heretofore, here on the other side of the looking glass, we are actually grateful that this has finally been observed about Trump.
Thank you, corporate media overlords.

(24,692 posts)So what has he suggested that even vaguely applies to U.S. foreign policy? First, as one panelist noted, it is a lot harder and more time-consuming to abrogate international security agreements that the U.S. has already signed than it is to institute new economic policies not based on treaties.
So wed assume that a President Trump would introduce the 45 percent tariff he promised against China more quickly than, say, pull American forces out of Europe. The new tariffs would roil global financial markets. And its not just the one percent whom Trumps supporters despise who would suffer as their assets shrank. So would every other person saving for retirement.
President Trump tells us he would pull American military support for Europe so that the Europeans pay for their own defense. He has no interest in NATO, he says, signaling the end of the western alliance that has been the bedrock of collective defense and stability in Europe for seven decades. Presumably, his new friends the Russians would be overjoyed at this prospect, given that there would then be no effective military force between Moscow and Paris.
Having destroyed Americas economic relationship with China, removed any barriers to Russian bullying of Europe, and reduced Americas engagement in the Middle East, we would have a very different global environment.
http://theconversation.com/president-trumps-foreign-policy-dystopia-56642
Of course, everyone says that they really have no idea what Trump will do. He may mean what he says now or could just be pandering to his base. He may be a great deal negotiator or just a great treaty-breaker.

(70,695 posts)This DRUMPF thing has gone way too far enough. I've never focused much on her but find her to have had a great career and to be respectable and credible. Many DUers have slammed her over the years, fine. But say what we will and we have and we will continue, her slamming DRUMPF needs to be said - nay, trumpeted - and by somebody with unimpeachable credibility. She's good enough for starters, so now this needs to build steam and roll all these Repuke clowns starting with DRUMPF right out of this absurd freak show going on.
