Gee...how often have we heard that before...planned drills taking place and then similar incidents at same time.

and there was a drill in Boston about homemade bombs, I think the day before, which is why there was lot of police presence.

(6,356 posts)...an individual entered the Capital Visitors Center, an off campus entryway that has security, tickets, general entrance stuff. As he was going through security, he removed a weapon (reportedly a pistol) from his jacket.
Here's where it gets fuzzy. A security cop thought the guy was raising the gun so the security guard drew down on him and fired - wounding the "suspect". A security cop was also wounded although the general consensus is there was only a single shot so they're is a hypothesis of a ricochet or a pass through wound.
Here's where I start to make shit up: When this is over, I'll bet they find this guy is some average Joe visiting the capital with his fully licensed concealed carry. Dumb I know but after standing in line for 2-3 hours during spring break to get to security, what do you do...you take it out and hand it to the security guys. In that process - Bart, the Mall Cop over reacted and literally "jumped the gun", maybe on a hair trigger from the morning alert but nonetheless, jumped the gun.
Lots more to come I'm sure.

The shooter was taken to the Washington Hospital Center under police escort after he was shot by officials, the Washington Post reported. Dawson apparently interrupted a House session last fall yelling that he was the "prophet of God," the Daily Beast reported. Two charges were filed against Dawson Oct. 23, 2015 for assaulting a police officer and unlawful conduct on Capitol grounds, the D.C. Court online system showed.

(6,356 posts)All it takes is a little more data and the whole theory comes crashing down. Damn, I hate when those pesky facts get in the way of a completely plausible, albeit completely false, theory. Sounds kind of republican, eh?
lol.

(845 posts)We have these drills fairly often.
It's a coincidence. No conspiracy to it.

(845 posts)Sometimes it's 'shelter in place' for an unknown attack or substance
Sometimes it's a fire drill.
There's a lot of people and office spaces. There's even a daycare.
It makes sense.
They always do them when they are out of session.

(21,317 posts)The building that I work in has a surprising number of fire drills, too.

And she said, "The doctors told me there was a one in 64 million chance that this could happen. It's A MIRACLE!" But, of course, we know it's not, because things that have a one in 64 million chance happen ... ALL the TIME! To presume that your one in 64 million chance thing is a miracle, is to significantly underestimate the total number of things that THERE ARE. ... Maths."
