Score one for the Koch brothers.
A measure that opponents say is intentionally confusing and will stifle solar growth was given the go-ahead by the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday. It will appear on the Florida ballot in November.
Environmental and solar advocates challenged the measure, titled, Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice, saying that it does not reflect any choice and does not create new rights. Sponsored by utility companies and other groups tied to the Koch brothers, the measure will prevent people from selling their electricity to third parties. This would effectively prevent solar leasing in the state, because under that system, an owner usually a solar company installs panels at a home and then sells the generated electricity back to the homeowner.
This amendment hoodwinks voters by giving the impression that it will encourage the use of rooftop solar when, in fact, it would do the opposite, Earthjustice attorney David Guest told the News Service of Florida.

(1,168 posts)Ever heard of Marco Rubio?
Have you looked at the makeup of the Florida legislature?
Florida keeps sending climate-change deniers to the statehouse, to the governor's mansion, and to Congress.

(82 posts)The Democratic Party here blows. . . DWS comes to mind. Our Democratic candidate for governor (Charlie "chain gang" Crist) was the previous Republican governor. The other Democratic candidates were a husband and then later, his wife who would be Republicans in most other states. Rick Scott bought the election each time. Pretty sure he will be running for president in 4 years.
Our districts are gerrymandered beyond redemption. A lot of those shirtless, shoeless folks you see on "Cops" are addicts and homeless people that are the result of the policies of Jeb!. And don't forget we got "shrub" because of Jeb!. The Democrats haven't fielded a decent candidate since Lawton Chiles.
All of that said, as I sit here listening to my neighbor's meth lab blow up again and watch yet another pregnant prostitute climb into a car I realize that we do have judgment issues in our state. Got go get another bottle of wine. Don't judge.

(4,220 posts)I am not sure what the answer is, although it should start with DWS and continue on down...
I have been fortunate to live most of my life in NY and now CA... lucky by birth and then lucky by circumstances...
I won't judge, its just mind boggling that we can't fix this issue with proper organizing and sweat in Florida.
Good luck my friend...
