Benefield has been bedeviling court officials in Chester County for some time, disrupting court proceedings with anti-government rants and speeches, mostly over his belief that the courts have no jurisdiction over him, and others like him.
Until a dispute last week that landed him in Chester County Prison, Benefield had held himself out a follower of the Moorish Sovereign Citizen movement ..
Last week, however, when he attempted to call into question the authority of Common Pleas Judge William P. Mahon and refused to identify himself, Benefield was taken into custody by sheriff deputies and taken to county prison. There, he underwent a mental health evaluation, with a preliminary diagnosis that he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia ...
