Spanish police have uncovered an alleged Islamic State supply network after seizing 20,000 new military uniforms destined for jihadist fighters in Syria.
Five tonnes of perfectly packed khaki uniforms were hidden under secondhand clothes in two supply containers at the port in Valencia, eastern Spain.
According to transit documents, the uniforms had been sent from Saudia Arabia to Spain, but their appearance suggested they had originated in a Nato country. A quantity of fertiliser, which can be used to make explosives, was also found at another location and seven men were arrested.

(36,988 posts)And so is Turkey. Notice they didn't say a member of the European Union which Turkey is not a member of? But said a NATO country?
That was telling.

(525 posts)They're manufactured in a NATO country. Let's say France, for no reason. Then shipped to Saudi Arabia, then shipped to Spain. From Spain they're supposed to go to Syria.
That really does look like they money to buy them is coming from Saudi Arabia. If they were purchased with ISIS funds more or less directly, there's no reason to cross the Mediterranean twice.
So you ship them to Saudi Arabia so that you can pay for them on the up & up, and not have anyone in France (or whatever country they originate from) know what's going on. Then you ship them to Spain as a way point, because shipping stuff from Saudi Arabia to Syria is a bit too obvious. From Spain they'd probably go to Turkey to get smuggled across the border.
But why include Saudi Arabia at all... unless Saudi money (or Saudi banking systems) are involved?
Yeah... something's rotten in the Kingdom of the Sauds.

Maybe ISIS does have uniforms, but I can't say that I've seen any footage of that.
Why all the shipping? Unless they wanted someone to find them = inflation of size. I ordered and pay for things all the time having them shipped directly somewhere else.

(525 posts)But overall I'd say you're right. Not a total deception, but rather they've been doing a lot of more-or-less pointless things to adopt the appearance of a genuine state. Minting their own coins, for example. Waste of time, effort, and gold. But an attempt to adopt legitimacy.

(22,670 posts)Isn't that comforting to know that Saudi Arabia is at the root of so many of these evil causes. Kind of reminds me of the GOP's political message from the 1990s moving forward to today.
Be careful what you wish for House of Saud, we're seeing where this leads just by looking at the radicalization of today's GOP.
