Mother faces deportation to Thailand after fiance's death; 11-year-old daughter allowed to stay

DERRY, N.H. —A mother from Derry is in danger of being deported to Thailand after her fiancé, a U.S. Navy SEALS veteran, died from cancer.

Because Bao Duaisarn and Tim Farrell were not married before Farrell passed away in December, Bao cannot legally stay in New Hampshire and faces deportation back to Thailand.

Duaisarn obviously wants to stay in Derry with her daughter, but because she has no other family in the U.S., no one else can help her get a green card.

It’s a tough situation to be in, and time is running out.

The family has many memories to hold on to of a brother, fiancé and father.

Farrell, a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy SEALS, grew up in North Andover but started a life in Thailand after he retired in 1998.

Farrell and Duaisarn, along with their 11-year-old daughter, Thawan Farrell, moved to Derry last summer.

Only six months later, while they were planning their wedding, Farrell passed away from liver cancer, he died the day after Christmas.

This is beyond just sad and ridiculous; the guy was a navy SEAL, they started a family years ago; he died of cancer; they want to leave the daughter now without either a father OR a mother. There's got to be some organization that helps with this stuff.

She can return as an adult - I would not be leaving my child

was diagnosed.

That's tragic that they didn't and hard to understand.

It's a long-established relationship and that ought to be good enough. Certainly enough that she can stay until the kid leaves high school.
