Saw this hashtag on another forum and thought it was a hoax. Turns out it's an actual thing.

I can agree that there is a lack of visibility for disabled minorities in some publications; but some of the tweets ive seen are just unbelievably bigoted and reek of oppression olympics. What do you all think of this?

(22,336 posts)It isn't usually to the point of "oppression olympics." It's usually more like, "I've noticed this and it's bugging me."
And interseconality is something people talk about a lot and this seems like a fair part of that conversation to me.

(4,840 posts)If we agree that being disabled effects visibility and being minority effects visibility, I don't think it's a stretch to conclude being disabled and a minority effects visibility two-fold.
Of course, that doesn't mean the disabilities of non-minorities should be ignored or diminished.

(15,522 posts)I can understand why someone would interpret #disabilitytoowhite as diminishing. Having a minority status that you would have even if you were able bodied probably does make it worse to a degree, but disabled is disabled. Once you are in that category you are just not seen. Able bodied people cannot fully appreciate just how much that matters.
