The Media Pushes Back As CNN Destroys A Trump Lie With An Onscreen Fact Check

Last edited Thu Jun 2, 2016, 06:43 PM - Edit history (1)

PoliticusUSA: The media is making Trump pay for his lies. Today, CNN fact-checked Trump with an onscreen graphic that called out one of his lies as they played the video.

As long as the major media outlets are going to put the lie to Trump's words like this. It won't take long before Trump either changes his ways (which I don't think is possible) or his credibility is in such tatters that even Fox won't stick up for him anymore (which may be unlikely, but still possible). It's long past time that objective truth re-enters our political discussions and this "some people say" nonsense is consigned to the trash heap. Trump can't say one week that he wants Japan to have nukes and then the next week say he never said that. There's no controversy over the facts in an instance like this, and it is just not that difficult for the media outlets to say that if they're interested in the integrity of their own reporting.

If I were a Trump supporter and the media suddenly turned on him, I would probably believe that it was the media with no credibility -- not Trump. The media has done this to themselves - their credibility is shot. Now all of a sudden they want people to believe them instead of their own lying eyes and ears? This will not work for them, but it's good that they're at least trying. Then again, maybe they're only doing it to cover their own asses and say, "We tried to warn the people" if Trump is elected.

I don't think the media feels regret; rather the opposite. Trump has been great for ratings during the primary, and in the general, I can only imagine he will boost them further still. Anything a profit-oriented newsroom can do to foment righteous rage (for or against a given candidate) simply means a greater audience.

Trump: I never said Japan should have nukes.
CNN: He lied. On xx date he said Japan should have nukes.

Trump has made it clear that he has nothing but contempt for the press, and I think it's not unreasonable for the press to respond accordingly. So what if he doesn't consent to interviews or do his idiotic call-in interviews. You can't stop the press from doing its job. And if that is what it takes, so be it.

.. y'all think the electorate cares about "facts".

Politicians are not about facts and they have not been for decades. The news media is not about the truth and it hasn't been for decades.

We live in a post-fact political climate where lies are as good as truths because every politician at that level is an accomplished liar and most people have figured that out.

IMO, this is an EXTREMELY important development if other cable stations and the broadcast networks emulate CNN graphics.

Like any other TV personality, Trump knows that what's most important is having the camera focused on you, and that it does not much affect what you're trying to advertise whether or not viewers have turned off the audio.

Trump repeats the same lies over and over again. Even if you have the sound turned down, you associate Trump's face with "Japan and South Korea should pay for their own nukes", "Obama has tanked the economy", "Mexicans are rapists", "Muslims threaten our national security", etc, etc.

With a relatively few transparencies prepared in advance to be overlaid under Trump's face, CNN or any other station can turn the free publicity they love to give him from positive to negative.

Marshall McLuhan would have been very proud of CNN producers today.

Weird because I don't believe Issa even likes Trump.

Issa kept saying 'President' Trump would be okay because would surround himself with knowledgeable advisors.
Wolf asked him about Japan getting nukes, and Issa said Japan had cooperated with small military and paid us a lot of
money to have bases around them.

Wolf ended the interview segment by saying, I've had numerous conversations with Trump about this and he does not agree with you - Trump believes Japan doesn't pay us nearly enough.

Issa weakly smiled knowing he was caught.
