(36,433 posts)2. Who needs a truth machine if you invented a time machine?
See, everyone could lie to their heart's content, then use the time machine to go back tomorrow, or next week, or whenever, and unsay their lies. I'm still working on some of the pesky details like the fact that some truths will become lies when the lies become truth.
The time machine sounds a lot easier to do. Have you read Godel, Escher, and Bach (GEB)?

Bill: If only we could go back to two days ago before your dad lost his keys, and steal them.
Ted: Well, why don't we?
Bill: Cuz we don't have time, dude.
Ted: We could do it after the report.
Bill: Oh, yeah! Where should we put 'em?
Ted: How 'bout behind this sign?
Bill: OK. Woah! It worked! Right, so when we're done with the report, we have to remember to do this or else it won't happen. Except it did happen! Ted, it was you who stole your dad's keys!

Stephen King's novel, 11/22/63, is a most interesting mind experiment in time travel, and well worth the read

But wouldn't you think that when the protagonist started betting on sports where he knew the results he would have said to himself "hey, this is just like Biff in Back to the Future 2"?
