An even more daunting estimate, from UCLA researchers, finds that if Mr Trump wins the same percentage of the white vote that Mr Romney did (59%) he would have to carry 47% of the Hispanic vote - a number only George W Bush in 2004 approached.
If the party were to thrive, Republican National Committee analysts wrote in their 2012 post-mortem, they would have to find a way to make their party more welcoming to minority voters - particularly Hispanics. Immigration reform should be a priority. Outreach efforts must be improved. Off-putting rhetoric should be adjusted.

(660 posts)that Trump has the capacity to compete in this kind of an election even if there wasn't this hurdle. He really seems to be screwing up.

(3,072 posts)Usually candidates start to plan and implement their get out the vote operation years before an election. Most of the 2016 candidates started to get that aspect of the campaign organized in 2013 or 2014. It is a daunting task and critical to win an election. Trump doesn't have one yet and he has stated he likely won't have one. He needs to turn out record numbers of white voters, numbers we haven't seen in generations, and he has no plan on how to actually do it. Not to mention that the rest of his campaign consists of an inexperienced skeleton crew with no money. I honestly can't tell if he is the most incompetent presidential candidate we have ever seen or if he really doesn't want to win.

(3,072 posts)The media kept claiming that he was going to tone down all of the racist shit and hope that everyone would forget about the bigotry in the primaries. Not only has he not toned it down during the general election, he seems to be ratcheting it up. What the fuck is his plan here? Is he trying to lose or does he just have absolutely no idea what he's doing?

(3,072 posts)Im white and 30 years old and the republican racebaiting bullshit is scary as hell. I would never vote for a candidate preaching that we need more white privilege. I cant understand how people that are 50 or 60 years old find that to be appealing
