So I just got back from volunteering at my local polling place. It was a lot of fun, met some nice people. Then I met the crazies. Let me tell you about the crazies. This one couple starting saying that it was a scam just because they were Repubs. We had to give them a provisional ballot because they didn't show up on our roster. Their votes get count no matter what, the county just double checks to make sure they are registered. The man started saying "Oh I think voting is a scam! Look what state we are in, isn't that proof?!" Also a lady yelled at me because she needed a provisional ballot for the same reason as the the couple. Why do republicans have to act like entitled snobs? Oh that's right because they are entitled snobs.

(49,212 posts)Usually because "this is where I normally vote" but of course precincts get changed based on expected turnout, changes in population in the area, etc so that's not carved in stone.
Having them step outside and call the county elections office usually results in them stepping back in five minutes later to say they're supposed to vote at the library and not at Our Lady of the Subdivision this time.
Of course if they insist on voting in your precinct they get a provisional ballot, but they should know that they run the risk of not having a say in local races, because they may not be voting a ballot that's the same as their precinct. (I had a polling place once where we had two precincts- city and county- voting in the same room. We told everybody which machine their ballot went into, but as soon as there was a line two people deep by the county machine people would go stick their ballot in the city machine, or vice versa. Congrats! Your vote for mayor didn't count, genius, because you stuffed it in the county box, but you shaved 90 seconds off your day. Sigh.)
