As well as a background check if buying from a dealer.

State laws require private sellers to verify the buyers age, state residency and not knowingly sell to a prohibited buyer

Good to see that you're out working the company line across all the pro-sanity threads today.

And of course I also see you're well practiced in the art of reframing the discussion from the logical to the inane. Nobody suggested that individuals not be allowed to sell their private possessions (until you brought it up).

But since you did...I can sell my car with no interference from the government...new title to the new owner and voila, it's a done deal.

See how easy that was.

Have a nice day.

I thought it was only the republican states that were pushing for voter ID laws, which they've done to suppress the minority vote. I'm surprised to find that all states have not only suggested them, but implemented them as well.

Federal law states that yoi can not sell a gun unless you are both residents of the same state.

My state law says the same thing. It also states that the seller is required to verify their age, and that they are a resident of the same state. Im not sure how you could do that without checking an ID.

I can say my name is Bill Dog and show an ID where I have my pic and Bill Dog on it...

Hmmm, yes I see the OP's' point ... too many loopholes for private sales...

Seems like gun registration would fix that, seeing I have to register my car

If it's at a store, then it was followed by a background check. If it was from an individual, they kept a copy of my license or copied down my license info. I haven't owned a gun in 6 years but I don't think that's changed. For the private sale, if the seller doesn't keep the new buyers info, they are stupid.

all the regulations are a complete clusterfuck.

The ATF requires those records because the feds are legally prevented from retaining background check documents. So they just required dealers to keep their documents, and if a gun shows up in a crime, agents go to the gun dealer to find out who originally bought it.

If the gun has been resold, then the agents are SOL, but if it hasn't then they have their suspect.

Every one I can recall (my memory is not perfect though) have purchased their guns, legally, with proper I'd and background checks, from a dealer.

Your action isn't going to save any lives; it's just a way for you to make yourself feel better.

It's also an infringement upon the liberties of others. You know, unless you are into that sort of thing.

I'll also throw up in my mouth a little as I realize I live in an amoral, wealth and celebrity worshipping cesspool, content to chase things we don't need while claiming superiority we do not possess and destroying the planet that sustains us.

It really is time for evolution to show humanity the meaning of "exit, stage right".
