The AR-15, verses the Knife debate.

I'll tell you what--- you bring your knife and I'll bring an AR-15 and we'll see who walks out.

Better yet, bring several with knives against the Ar-15 and let's see how many of you leave standing up.

I just want to reach my hands through the intertubes and smack Morans who say a knife attack is just as bad.

..."he brought a knife to a gun fight" to describe stupidity.

Every time there is a disaster like this, we're always reminded of all the other things that kill people that aren't regulated.

Knives kill people - are you suggesting we outlaw knives.
Hammers kill people - are you suggesting we outlaw hammers.
Pushing people out a window kills people - are you suggesting we ban windows that open.

It's all such diversionary bullchit.

What makes me so crazy about the gun arguments is the misdirection. All designed to ensure any form of gun regulations are the LAST step in addressing this epidemic of violence instead of the first. Before we touch gun control, by their logic, we need to fix immigration, eliminate mental health issues, wipe out drug usage, eliminate obesity and probably cure cancer.

When we ask "when will they get some common sense?"...it's not when guns become the leading cause of death in America, it's when guns become the ONLY cause of death.

That's why it's important to practice your draw and first shot from the hip.

No if I've got my AR at the ready the knife guy could be toast, but then again with a 30 round pmag seated I can always back up some while continuing to fire.

. . . They seem to leave out the little detail that there were several attackers, which is about 2-3 kills per person. A knife can't kill 1-3 dozen people at a time, within seconds. One can run from a knife. One can survive a knife fight. I can't dodge bullets.

Yes... these people who committed these shootings were actually using the gun correctly. Their targets are the thing that's wrong. But the gun, being a weapon made for killing things, is serving that purpose. Gun lovers seem to forget that. It's like it's a kitchen gadget or something. That attitude is the problem.

I think the "defend myself" argument is just as ludicrous.
I've lived in several states, couple of countries and lived in very poor and drug-infested neighborhoods.
Despite that, neither I nor billions of other human beings living their life right now, own a gun or want a gun.
Funny how billions of people manage to live without a gun but some here in the United States feel like they cannot walk outside their home without one.

So many are so sure but don't get the difference between a want and a need.

The main defense is between your ears. When I was young I had a job which required carrying large amounts of cash. For a while i carried a gun. Walking across a park one day I was wondering what would happen if someone jumped out from behind of a tree with a gun. Pretty obvious the gun was useless holstered and I was only going to get shot if I pulled it out. Just avoid the tree would be better or check over the area by eyeball before going there. Be aware and fit into your surroundings. I remember one bar owner I knew who used to walk 2 blocks to the bank every Friday and get a large amount of cash for cashing payroll checks. He just put it in a grocery bag and looked like anyone else walking back with groceries. I think carrying a gun can make one over confidant, and many gun owners are really looking for a chance to use it. I have lived in some really rough neighborhoods and I have never seen or heard of any killing that could have been stopped by a carrying a gun. Not much use against drive by shootings, getting shot in the back or random shots killing children. We have had several children killed in our city by bullets that went through walls of buildings.

I saw a Chinese film last night where a dude kicked like a thousand other dude's butts and cut them into little pieces with only a sword! So, you know, there's that. Maybe we need to start worrying about swords, especially if they're of Chinese make because those guys know some wicked kung fu and swordshitsu (that's a word right?).

Seriously though... the argument over the knife as opposed to a gun... almost any gun, is frigging ridiculous. There's a reason we stopped using swords and bayonets - high powered fire arms are much more effective at slaughter. Much, much more effective.

True, but people with guns kill more people than people with knives, poison, bombs, and now even cars. We're not going to get rid of people. Get rid of the kinds of guns that kill people so damned efficiently.

And I don't care if you call it an assault weapon or a rutabaga. It's easy to make up a list of the guns used in Sandy Hook, Orlando, and other places and get rid of them.

a gun empowers an individual of any stature - not quite the same with a knife.

Again - are there stats of homicides where the perpetrator went out and bought a knife to do bodily harm to someone??

Beside the blood makes the grip slippery giving a chance to wrap a shirt around an arm and offering a chance to disarm the attacker.

No chance with a gun until reloading.

that's what it was designed to do. Most knives are not made as weapons. You can kill someone with a rolled up newspaper, but few people want to ban newspapers. Most people understand the difference between tools of war and tool of daily use.

Guns generally have but one purpose to kill something. When it kills something it did its job.

But nails guns...
