Today after striking the same window that killed a Rose-breasted Grosbeak May 18th: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10027841026
He was breathing and his eyes were blinking immediately after striking the window. He started moving his head after a few minutes. We knew from that he would be ok. After about 15 minutes he jumped to his feet and flew back into the forest.
He is a Downy Woodpecker: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Downy_Woodpecker/id
On the left, a Sparrow feeds it's baby. That is a squirrel feeder BTW.
Our tiki fountain is a bird favorite place. We are trying to keep the turkeys from bathing in it. Cleaning up after they poop in it is no fun. You can just see the water spout.
Birds aren't the only creatures that fly that stop by the fountain.

He hit it so much, he slobbered on the glass until it was white. The picture put a stop to that month-long practice in a matter of minutes.
Worth a try.

Obstructing the view of the birdbath is a hawk. Some are hummingbirds. They don't show up well in the picture.

(55,981 posts)For 4 days in a row, robins hit my window. All survived but one. It must be something about the time of day and the reflection on the window. I have changed my routine and leave the curtains closed to prevent more robins from hitting the window.

(39,313 posts)and tumbled onto the floor next to my chair. His legs were up in the air and he slowly stopped breathing. After 15 min I brushed something near him and he flew away.
Same thing happened an hour later but this time he stayed glued to a cable wire by the wall with his beak resting on the wall for 10 minutes. Figured this was a young bird learning the ropes.
What is it when they just freeze like that..

(15,238 posts)The two yard cats were very interested I put the cats in the garage in about half an hour the blue jay was gone. The cats were upset but half a can of wet cat food and all was forgiven.

(1,999 posts)Never saw an injured bird outside after the impacts, whoever it was just hit the window and flew away like nothing happened. Though given that, it might actually have been the same bird every day. I don't remember what type of bird it was.

(99,632 posts)We turned up the settings on our security system. We had no turkey poop to deal with this A.M.
Our filter (photo below) is happy.
