Thanks for the hospitality over these many years, Skinner. You've been a gracious host. I've enjoyed discussions with so many people here, and I've learned a lot.
But sometimes moving on is just the right... move.
That's it, really.
Have a lovely summer, everyone.

(13,877 posts)thing that is Inconvenient, is RW. Works like magic.
synergie
(1,901 posts)hidden, some people can't handle facts, and some people think that any lie they'd like to believe about people they don't like are "facts" and not RW at all, despite their existence in the RW echo chamber. The "magic" is amazing, when Rove and the Daily Caller etc. are "factual" simply because one wishes their screeds were actually true.
The magic that turned RW smears into "facts" are explained here:
http://thedailybanter.com/2016/01/hillary-gop-smears/
During the primaries such "magic" was often used, and any dissent silenced. Even posts that cited the actual printed writings of a candidate in context and directly were deemed to be "inconvenient" despite their factual attribution, while magic was used to cobble together bits and pieces to create a story that the RW had originated, and were treated as facts.
Aren't you glad that primary season is over and such obvious lame tricks are over now? If that's the type posts one wishes to indulge in there are many places that are not so hot on facts, that do love that magic and where such nonsense is acceptable and invited. This not one of them.

For a while, though, I found genuinely fascinating all the seething acting out with Hillary derangement syndrome totally off the leash, evil Democratic plots, the theft of the election and other even more convoluted and amazing conspiracy theories about everything from Benghazi to treason, how Chelsea should be sent to prison, the "loyalty oath" we're all required to sign here at DU, whether referring to certain female politicians by obscene terms was insulting to others on the forum, etc, etc, etc.

(65,524 posts)loses its sharper edges. I too am a Bernie supporter, but I will avidly support Clinton against Trump.
I too feel frustrated that establishment Democrats ignore the way our elections are deformed and defrauded by unverifiable voting, myriad voter suppression tactics, gerrymandering, and other forms of election fraud, and I am sure it is a Faustian bargain made to protect themselves against challenges to their power.
But DU is still the site wehere I get the best information and where I find some of the best political commentary. I admit it devolves into name calling and flamebaiting more often than when I first joined 12 years ago, but I just click away from a thread when that happens.
This primary season has been brutal, no doubt. My greatest disappointment, though, is not that my preferred candidate lost. I have never hated Hillary. I just strongly preferred Bernie. I think Hillary is a good candidate--and so was Martin O'Malley.
What disappointed me was when some of the DU members whose posts I used to look for and read with pleasure started bating and deriding those of us who supported Bernie and calling us and our candidate nasty names. I was seriously surprised and disappointed when some of those DU members started spiking the ball and performing butt-wagging end zone dances after each state Hillary won and especially after she clinched the nomination.
They are people whose posts I have admired in the past, so I was shocked at how they behaved toward Bernie supporters and at the way they smeared the character and record of an honorable man.
Sure, there was similar viciousness against Hillary coming from the Bernie camp, but most of the unreasonably nasty posts against Hillary came from DU members who either had not been here long or whom I had not noticed much before, so their posts dfdfidn't disappoint me the way such comments did when they emanated from those whoise contributions here I had long admired.
The primaries always provoke intemperance, of course. I do thing moist of the vicious posts came from a small but passionate cadre on each side, but since they posted such comments all the time, it made DU suck.
Understand, I am not complaining about honest, reasonable concerns about or criticism of either candidate. I am referring only to the ugly name-calling and the smears directed at each candidate and his or her supporters.
I hope the new rules will declaw some of the most determinedly vicious commenters, and that pretty soon DU will start feeling more like it did before the primaries. As that happens, I hope more of those who are leaving will return.
I hope you will return.

(24,544 posts)candidate's really spectacularly horrible outreach to the black community. There was no attack, just a post discussing what happened during the election and that was hidden as "rehashing the primaries."
Well, when one of the folks that was in the primaries hasn't even conceded, then how can they truly be over? And there is a profound difference between "rehashing the primaries" through attacking and insulting candidates and discussing how things could have been handled differently. The fact that suddenly this is no longer allowed here is incredibly telling and beyond pathetic, imho.

(37,549 posts)I would appeal any hidden post as a matter of course. Absolutely, just to get admin's thoughts on it.
The post mortem of the BS campaign is inevitable. Alerting to make it go away won't succeed. But some people have to learn that.
As for people's priorities, I am sad for any woman who thinks that progressive goals are furthered on sites where the "c" word is used to describe women. What I would tell those women is:
"Leave those men to their sausagefest and masturbatory echo chamber. They have issues with the women in their lives, and you should not have to be a stand in for other relationships. Their flaccid rhetoric and impotent rage is not advancing your political agenda. Unless, of course, you find value in engaging with such people. You are responsible for yourself."
