A real right wing nut job but still part of the GOP establishment. It just makes more sense than going with a retread like Newt, who pushed the Bill Clinton impeachment even though he was no saint of marital fidelity himself or Christie who is probably even more unpopular in New Jersey than Trump and has his own ethical problems with Bridgegate.

(135,425 posts)The pundits, such as they are, were speculating that he'd choose a retired flag/general officer, perhaps.
Gee, think he'd be able to handle someone with more fruit salad than he got at the military academy he attended? Hey, he got the Clean Room Medal!!!

And I am obvs no Mike Pence fan. But it would be like putting Racquel Welsh behind a Betty Boop cartoon.

(2,100 posts)You obviously didn't see the stunned, uncomprehending look he had on his face for weeks after the backlash began from his Discriminate Against Gay People All You Want Act. He tried to get people to call it the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, but it was pretty obvious what the intent was.
He just couldn't understand why anyone could possibly be upset, I mean, freedom, and christians can't be bad or do the wrong thing, 'cos they're christians, and everyone hates gay people, right? They're unnatural, doncha ya know? Plus, also, freedom, and christians are being oppressed if they can't discriminate, why do you hate christianity!?!
He is also waging an all out war against our public schools. He tried to create his own version of Pravda - Indiana GOP Edition. He has cost the state millions between turning down federal money for schools, roads, and healthcare, to creating problems that encouraged businesses and individuals to boycott the state for months at a time. He turned Indiana into both a national laughingstock and a pariah.

(17,680 posts)That's all I'm saying. He's a shit and deserves to be forgotten forever. But I can not see tRump putting Pence in the same image frame as himself, for optics only. Consider their audience. They eat that stuff up.
He's right up there with Brownback in my book as an example of hard evidence that the Republican ideas for governance are based on false a premise. That the Kansas experiment's total failures aren't on the news 24-7 is an indicator the failure of our media to inform our people.

(2,100 posts)and he would absolutely appeal to the social conservatives, however, Pence is a true believer. I can't see him accepting. He will adhere to his faith principles even when they don't make any sense. For example, Pence believes abortion causes breast cancer. He's a climate change denier, and a creationist. If we could find a passage in the bible that said the Earth was flat, he'd be panicked about falling off the edge. Trump will want a sycophant, and Pence won't be able to deliver if he realizes that Trump hasn't "repented" his previous lifestyle.
That's really all the social conservatives have got, the belief that Trump is a brand new christian and he's forgiven for all the wives and affairs, and Howard Stern interviews from the past. If/When they figure out he's still that same guy, they won't be able to support him. Unfortunately, there's more than enough raging racists in the Republican party to keep him afloat. They don't give a rat's patoot about his sex life, except to admire it.
Christie could certainly butt-kiss enough, but he's too smart and ambitious for Trump's comfort. What he'll want is someone like Palin, except more hard-working, since Trump will make the VP do the day to day work of the Presidency. He doesn't actually want to do the job of President, he just wants the title and deference. But still, he'll want the flashy crowd draw, combined with absolute fawning and loyalty. Maybe he'll choose his daughter. That's just about the way his mind works.
You're right, Brownback is just the same as Pence. I think Brownback actually believes that tax cuts somehow create tax revenue, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. And the media only care about making money. They certainly don't care about telling people the truth. The truth is boring, and doesn't bring up the ratings.

(5,191 posts)1. Nothing to lose by doing it
2. He will get his name all over the place again = $ after they lose in November
3. He's a total cynic; who else could push for the Clinton impeachment while his own affair was happening
4. He will be a yes man to Trump
5. NO OTHER REPUBLICAN WANTS IT!

(80,708 posts)Christie is probably leaving him 200 voice mails a day "Hi Don! Just checking in, wanted to see if you need anything. You've got my cell phone number, right? Because I know I wrote it down for you but I was thinking that I used this pen that always smudges and if you stuck it in your pocket really quick- you're such a busy, competent man- one of the numbers might have become smudged and you might not be able to read it. So just in case, I'll give it to you again!"

(24,016 posts)...wouldn't seem to add much to the ticket. In fact, he dulicates a couple of the more notable aspects. He and Melania have posing in the-almost-nude in common. And, IIRC, like Trump, Brown thinks his daughters are hot, just like Disgusting Don.
