Ted Cruz: 2nd Amendment Is 'Ultimate Check Against Government Tyranny'

I remember when former veteran Joni Ernst said that my gun will defend me if government decides ‘My Rights Are No Longer Important.’ Now, we have two veterans in Dallas and in Louisiana going on cop killing sprees in response to Africans Americans being killed by law enforcement without justification or prosecution. The irony is that the NRA and many Republicans have argued in favor of such second amendment solutions.

WASHINGTON — It's a given that every Republican presidential candidate will run for president as a strong supporter of gun rights.

But Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is arguing that the Second Amendment includes a right to revolt against government tyranny, a point of emphasis uncommon for mainstream presidential candidates.

"The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution isn't for just protecting hunting rights, and it's not only to safeguard your right to target practice. It is a Constitutional right to protect your children, your family, your home, our lives, and to serve as the ultimate check against governmental tyranny -- for the protection of liberty," Cruz wrote to supporters in a fundraising email on Thursday, under the subject line "2nd Amendment against tyranny."

This "insurrectionist" argument, as Second Amendment expert and UCLA law professor Adam Winkler calls it, is popular among passionate gun owners and members of the National Rifle Association. But major party candidates for president don't often venture there.

Surely these is someone that will run for each post as mayor, police chief, councilman, etc. who can take the hard-ass position that holds police two a higher standard for using force.

seeing gay people hold hands in public. Oh the humanity!

It's surreal. The right has been talking about "Second Amendment Solutions", "Revolutions", "Taking the country back", etc. practically since the clock hit 12 morning on January 20, 2009. They *should* be happy, people are rising up against the instruments of tyranny like how they always wanted, right?

well-regulated militias were NOT the best security of our free states, and a HUGE kick-ass military was.

Any notion of taking on, or removing the pretext for, a large standing army is rather obsolete.
