As Bill Clinton said "There is nothing wrong with America that can't be fixed by what is right with America."
* I apologize for the graphic language but that shit pisses me off. It is interesting the GOP is suggestng everything went down hill after America put a black guy in charge. I bet they think we won't notice.

(24,704 posts)We have problems and we're far from perfect but I have no clue what reality Republicans and the NRA are living in.

(5,172 posts)a lying campaign chairman full of crap and no info, and there's Charlie Rose with his hard-hitting questions that Manafort can't even answer because he's so clueless. The whole thing is sickening.

(38,958 posts)I tend to think that the GOP might be as described, but that is simply my opinion.

(82,383 posts)find it a disaster to have a black President. To them it's their worst nightmare.

(53,876 posts)they would be calling him the second coming of saint reagan.
they would be celebrating obamacare as a conservative, market-based solution to the health crisis.
they would be jumping for joy at the biggest, longest stock market boom ever.
they would be calling him a capitalist savior.

(99,978 posts)But that is the last thing the GOP is talking about.

(80,708 posts)But ive noticed that optimism isn't very popular in some corners.
Hell, yesterday i got yelled at here for daring to suggest that the human race just might not be so irredeemably doomed that we should all stop breeding and curl up in a hole and die, preferably while muttering sincere apologies to the universe for having the temerity to exist in the first place.
On topic, though, yes. Obama has done a hell of a job, and i think history will judge him VERY highly. Best president of my lifetime.

(16,774 posts)He makes me laugh in serious press conferences. The WHCD I am usually crying I'm laughing so hard! Wit is a sign of intelligence, and I'm sure he doesn't write all that, but his delivery is perfect, and when he says something on the fly, I believe that is truly jokes and quips of his own making.

(99,978 posts)America has problems
-Wage growth is stagnant
-GDP growth is steady but sluggish
-Police-community tensions
-America has an implacable enemy in terrorism that is amorphous and thus not easily contained.
But let's use the proper benchmark: 1/20/09 . We were sinking fast and in the midst of the greatest economic downturn in over eighty years and in the middle of two unwinnable wars the GOP started. Even if you conceded the Afghanistan War was one of necessity we could have prosecuted it much better and with more international support if we didn't invade Iraq.

(99,978 posts)Because that would involved redistributionist policies which are anathema to them.
Back to my OP I don't see it an America where everybody is broke but and out to pillage.

(24,878 posts)but listening to them, it sounds as if they want to MAKE America into their neo-Confederate image--a dystopian hellhole for everybody but themselves.

(14,843 posts)The 90s were the best time this country has seen in half a century, and they turned it into shit with their never ending histrionics over Clinton.
Bush/the GOP lied the country into Iraq and ran the country into the ground while they held the country hostage to fear over 9-11 in 00s.
BHO has steadily led us to recovery and by most measurable indications we are in a much better place today than when he took over, but once again, their 8 year temper tantrum over not having the white house is what they point to for "the country is divided."
Just assholes, flat unhinged assholes.

(42,372 posts)Every time I hear "make America Great again--I use the substitute "Make America White again"--I do it automatically, because that's what they really mean.

(22,523 posts)But I'd like to clarify. If one is a Republican and they watch Fox News, then their world-view is polluted by lies and misinformation. Throw in any other typical GOP attitudes, (racism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc.), and I can see how they think the world is in the crapper.
Sadly, too many of these fellow citizens are ignorant pawns who have been manipulated. I have no sorrow for them nor do I respect them. But I can understand how they would see the world given their lack of clear understanding.
It made the Republicans insane when Mr. Obama was first elected: a black man was president! When he was reelected, they really couldn't believe it and Karl Rove's election night meltdown was the classic symbol of their lack of ability to see the real world.
Just imagine their reaction on November 9th when they wake up to the realization that we'll have a woman president, one named Hillary Clinton!
