The storytelling here is really like a Wrestlemania. Even Cruz's heel-turn and vanquishing last night could have been straight out of WWE.

And then recently we were channel surfing and discovered Lucha Underground and fell in love with wrestling again. There's even a few characters Ben Carson would claim are in league with Satan.

(182,803 posts)his entrance while Cruz was on stage was the same as when one wrestler is jawing about his rival and suddenly the rival appears from backstage. The announcers go apesh|t and the crowd follows.
You could also make the case that his wife and daughter are playing the role of the arm candy wrestling hotties. His sons are the manager/barkers.
As noted above he did appear in a Wrestlemania and is good friends with Vince. I've said for months that he is doing an insult comic/ wrestling schtick.
On edit - the smokey light show entrance comparison was noted by many across the Internet.

(2,496 posts)It's a scripted drama with willfully stupid/blind audience.
I would not be surprised if the whole Cruz thing was not pre-planned. In fact, would be willing to take odds on it.

But I definitely see the parallels.
