http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/2015/08/12/trump-autos/31589899/Donald Trump is making the future of U.S. auto production a cornerstone of his campaign for the Republican nomination for president.
Trump disclosed in an interview with The Detroit News Wednesday that Ford CEO Mark Fields wrote to him explaining the automakers planned $2.5 billion investment in Mexico after Trump criticized Ford in June. And Trump suggested one way to stop automakers expansion to Mexico is by moving some production out of Michigan to lower-wage states.
I dont like whats happening, Trump said in the 15-minute telephone interview. Were losing our jobs. Were losing our wealth. Were losing our country ... Why cant we do it in this country? Its an incredible thing that were not allowed to make our product....
Weve got to keep (factories) here. Its not that hard to do, he said. Without action, he added, pretty soon all were going to have is nursing home jobs.

Asked why he was focused on Ford when other global automakers have announced plans to expand operations in Mexico, Trump said he wasnt familiar with other automakers expansion plans. He planned to mention other automakers, he said, and asked The Detroit News to send information about them.
He "wasn't familiar with..."
That's his problem-- he talks a lot but doesn't know shit. The article is well balanced with mentions of increased manufacturing in the US and that Mexican plants are better suited for worldwide export trade. And the comparative advantage in Mexico is far more than just wage differentials.

state, forcing those factory workers to lose their jobs or move. Typical Trump stupid idea.

If you don't work for one of the Big 3 in the Detroit Metro area, chances are you work for an automotive supplier, as I do.
Not surprising he would say this, considering his numbers in Michigan.
