what i wouldn't give to talk politics with my grandmother right now

my grandmother helped form a college assistants local in nyc in 1970 and was with them for nearly 50 years. i was so filled with pride when i saw all the union folks at the funeral. she was a delegate at the 96 dnc and (i'm pretty sure but don't really know because my grandmother aged well) that's when this pic was taken. she passed in february 2008 and i've long lamented that i haven't had her to talk politics with, but it really hit me tonight when i remembered this pic.

we wouldn't have agreed during the primaries but i would love to hear her talk about hillary right now.

who died when I was 4. I found out she was the treasurer of East Canton, OH for a good portion of her life. Yes, it is a small town, but it was something for a woman to get elected to such a positiom in the early 1900's. The oldest woman in my family that I ever knew, but she was strong, as all her offspring were- didn't take shit from anyone.

She passed away a few years ago. She reached the 100 mark, but the last few years weren't so pretty and quality.

She was an Obama fan from the get-go. She has ALWAYS had a warm spot in her heart for people of color. She recognized something special with Obama, and it wasn't his color alone. The last few years of her life we shared politics, and I did most of the talking, and she did most of the enjoying. Her eye sight and hearing went in the last few years too. Sad. If we are going to live to be that old, there are a lot of things that can go wrong along the way. But my Mom always had a positive attitude, and I NEVER heard her complain about anything. She was a trooper, and Obama was her man. I'm sure Hillary would have made her proud too. She had read her book(s).

Miss you Mom! You were the best!!
