White Privilege example

for those of you, who say it does not exist.

The Mayor of Fairfax VA was arrested in a drug bust, with 2 others.

you would think that fact alone would mean his photo would be used as an image accompanying the story. I went to look up if he was an R or D.

1st 2 news hits yup there his image, with the headline.

3rd hit. What? The only brown man (Latino) arrested accompanies the story.

(now that the story is hitting news sites, the fox hit no longer comes up)

Virginia mayor among 3 arrested and charged in meth for sex case

FOX 8 · 25 minutes ago

FAIRFAX, Va. — The mayor of the City of Fairfax in Virginia was arrested Thursday after he allegedly gave …

Does it stop there? No I went to read the story. The pis at the top has the latino in the center, with the white mayor on the left and the other white guy on the right. Both with some of their faces chopped off. On the site, their faces are cropped. So the only entire face you see id of the Latino.

6. I think in a lot of areas they don't advertise the political party of city officials.

I know they don't in my area, but it is usually obvious by the things they say and do.

to prove something that is statistically valid (or not) for 260 million people. No information as to what went on, why choices were made in the newsroom, what matters to that outlet's readership, so since what you see is all there is the only thing that's important is race.

It's one thing to say "race matters," a slogan from a decade or two ago. It's quite another to say, "I don't know anything else but race, so only race matters." It's easy, simple, quick, and more frequently wrong than right.

in my post. Now that the story is getting picked up by a lot of media outlets and blogs, it no longer appeared as the 3rd hit.

It does not negate the fact that Fox shows the Latino, who was arrested along with the mayor, in the icon. Not the mayor. go to the fox link and look at the photo array. It shows the Latino guy in the center. The 2 white guys on each side, with almost 1/2 their faces cropped out.

How do you think people who rely on fox will digest the story? Latino guy in the middle, entire face shown. 2 white guys, faces cropped off in the pic. It is not until you click on the picture that their entire faces are shown. Who clicks on those?
