If the GOP wants to push how bad the economy is then I say let's go all in with it. I believe it is even worse than they are saying. (sarcasm folks, but bear with me) Now let's see who is in charge and who should be outed due to giving us such a bad economy.....Oh, yeah, it is the Republicans in the house and the senate! I believe each and every red state should have ads run with Donnie saying how bad the economy is and then pointing towards the Republican in that state who is in charge and did not make the economy better.
Give them what they want with their boohooing about how bad it is. Show them their leaders who sent the jobs overseas, who gave us this deficit, who did everything in their power to bring down this country. Lay the blame exactly where it lies.

(50,302 posts)I was just watching Corey what's-his-face (former official Trump shill, now paid CNN Trump shill) on CNN talking about jobs. To make his point that businesses need tax cuts, he said government doesn't create jobs. That is true. But in 10 seconds he'll be blaming Obama because job growth is slow, low or whatever the meme of the day is. It's all Obama's fault all the time.

(1,143 posts)we should change the narrative on them. Hang Trump and the "bad" economy around their necks. Make everything Trump says into an anchor around their necks for the election. Let their own sink their ship.

(1,143 posts)But if they want to believe it is bad then we should go with it and explain they need to fire all of those republicans who represent them right now. I think, in fact I know, the economy is solid. It is great, especially if you have stocks. It has come a long way but if they want to go with the doom and gloom narrative then they should kick out all of the Republicans who have made life so hard trying to make the economy better.

(80,708 posts)if you want to reach people who are hurting economically, you need to specifically speak to their concerns. There certainly are a lot of people who don't just "believe" the economy is bad, for them it is- and clearly telling an unemployed steel worker that the dow has tripled since march of 2009, isnt going to be terribly convincing.
But just broadly saying " yes everything sucks and the government is to blame- but only the Republicans" isnt going to work. The GOP base has already figured out - although it sure took them long enough- that the party establishment isnt looking out for their economic interests; that's why they nominated Trump. And Trump has one advantage (despite being an almost unimaginably bad candidate) in that he literally gives no fuck at all about speaking anything resembling the truth.
So he'll go "oh yeah, I'll just make China give you your jobs back", derp.
I mean, hell, he got up there at his convention and went on about "14 years of disasterous wars in the middle east".... Uh, yeah, and whose bright idea was THAT?
Our party needs to offer optimism but also honesty, and the honest truth is that the world has changed and is changing, and those jobs arent coming back. The optimistic part is that with smart and bold leadership there are new opportunities coming which we may not even be able to imagine, yet.
