Federal regulation of amusement park rides is nonexistant. Thanks St. Ronnie!

Consumer Product Safety Commission hasn't had the power to oversee amusement parks for 35 years, after Congress stripped its authority in 1981 as part of a package of deregulatory budget cuts.

Here's the Kansas state statute concerning amusement park rides. It calls for self-inspection by a qualified inspector once a year. There is no license requirement for an inspector.

Why didn't Clinton do anything about it? What about Obama? Are they to blame as well?

Here's a link to the most recent attempt to get federal regulation for fixed park rides.

The bill died in committee.

Here's a list of (some of) the attempts to get the legislation passed.
