I am very familiar with gymnastics as my daughter competed USAG for 12 years. To be a good woman gymnast or even a Olympian gymnast there are specific body attributes that are necessary to make it to the top. The person will have to be very short, light weight and very flexible and strong. Male trans would very unlikely have those attributes compared to the female counter parts as well as women gymnast peek in their teens and males have much longer careers where they peak in their mid to late 20s. I think gymnastics will always stay a segregated sport due to the physicality of men and women are so different.

Especially in the case of trans females who transitioned early in life, as is increasingly the case.

15. Making it to the top elite levels is practically impossible even for 99.9% of girls

Many boys have a dream of being in the NFL or playing in Major League Baseball. Very, very few even get a chance.

It's even worse odds for a girl in gymnastics to make it to the elite/international levels. This is a fiercely competitive sport that the human body is pushed to the max at a young age. Someone who is going through transition would encounter a lot of difficulty making it to top levels in the small peak age window of women's gymnastics. Men have a bigger window, so a FTM may have a better shot. But very few women compete after age 18. There are a lot of older Olympians. There's a female cyclist in her 40s that just won a medal. Phelps is as dominant as always even now in his 30s. But in gymnastics.....it's a sport for the youth.

All that being said....USA Gymnastics does in fact have a transgender policy in place. Although I am not certain what position the IOC or FIG has on the matter. And USA Gymnastics does not have much control over what individual gyms/clubs decide to do.
Transgender in sport remains a very controversial issue.

I wouldn't have cared, but our language around trans folk is already so awkward, so when I can I try to use the correct way to address people.
And yes, totally innocent mistake that a lot of people make, I have myself till it was pointed out to me.
