Trump has always been very black and white when it comes to his friends and enemies. If you love him and say wonderful things about him then he loves you back. But if you criticize him you are biased against him and are a traitor. So it really makes sense that he would appoint Steve Bannon as his new CEO, since Breitbart is the Trump fantasy-news network.

I think this is a campaign thats deeply conflicted inside and that reflects the internal conflicts of the man at the top of the campaign. I guess I would argue that it would be a mistake to read too much into Donald Trump reading a teleprompter speech and assume that this is a new person. Hes been telling us all along he doesnt want to change, hes more comfortable with who he is, that hes rejecting advice from people who are telling him to be more presidential, and I think thats what this is. This is really more of a validation of Donald Trump and his sort-of gut instincts on how to run a campaign.
If you followed Breitbart or read the site over the past year, its basically created this alternate reality where Donald Trump is the best and everything he does is amazing and the people who oppose him are either idiots or traitors. Its really this sort of fantasy world where Donald Trump is king and only he can fix the problems that are facing the country.
I think he likes that. I think he wants that kind of validation. I think its one of the reasons that he sought to bring on Stephen Bannon at the top of his campaign.

(3,580 posts)It's in our nature to respond positively to adoration but most of us have enough self awareness that we aren't as great as they say we are. We know the person we present to the public is not our true self. Because none of us reveal all of ourselves to everyone in all situations we understand our presentation to the world is skewed because we only share what results in a gain for ourselves. Trump had it backwards, he presents his phoney self to the world and when people validate that he believes it must be true. So trump is easily manipulated when people tell him he's really great, smart, handsome.
I always go back to when Marla maples proclaimed to the world the best sex she ever had was with trump. She was still trying to marry him. He was so lacking in self awareness he had to marry her, not because she was pregnant but because he had irrefutable proof to the world he was the best because someone told him he was. If no one told him he was smart or the best or richest, what would he know about who he is?
And if your only truth you know about yourself is when other people validate your phoney self, they can talk you into anything.
