Preston Hubbard, of Roomful of Blues, Fabulous Thunderbirds, dies at 63
Providence native Preston Hubbard, who played bass with Roomful of Blues and the Fabulous Thunderbirds on his way to achieving one of the most accomplished resumes of any rock and blues musician to come out of Rhode Island, has died, according to multiple sources.
American Blues Scene Magazine reported late Wednesday that the 63-year-old Hubbard was found dead at his home on Wednesday. Hubbards death was confirmed to The Providence Journal by a relative.
Born and raised in Providence, Hubbard spent eight years with Roomful of Blues, then moved to Austin, Texas, and spent 10 years with The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Along the way, he played on a top-10 pop single, helped put two other songs on the national charts and lent his talents to a number of highly successful albums, according to a 2003 article in The Journal. At that point, his bands had combined for four Grammy nominations altogether.
