Trump doesn't apologize and it is dutifully reported that he did.

The closes to "sorry" seems to be him claiming to regret causing some people personal pain. I don't believe he regrets anything. I think his kids are back in charge, and they pushed him to make that statement.

Here is the exact quote:

“Sometimes, in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don’t choose the right words, or you say the wrong thing,” he said at a rally in North Carolina. “I have done that, and I regret it, particularly where it may have caused personal pain. Too much is at stake for us to be consumed with these issues.”
