The past few days have been the 4th anniversary of the rescue story of one of our 4 cats. Our sons both attended Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, and were on the soccer team together. In 2012, the team was on a pre-season trip to San Antonio. One evening, as they were heading back to their hotel, the team came across a small kitten all alone on a cement footbridge. His back left foot was injured. They took him back to the hotel, bathed him and got him some food.
None of the shelters had any room, and they were told that if they turned the kitten in, he would be put to death. (I can never make myself say "euthanized" if there is not a terminal illness or trauma involved.) The team decided that was unacceptable and passed the hat to buy the kitten a ticket back to Carthage. HE arrived in the midwest on Sept 29, 2012, weighing a whopping 1 lb 4 oz. He now tips the sale at over 14 pound of sleek muscle and glistening fur, and we totally adore him.
His name is Winston. We were so proud of these young men for this act of compassion.
