Recently I started binge watching the old show "Star Trek Voyager" again.
Fans know of the character "7 of 9" played by actress Jeri Ryan.
Jeri Ryan was married to Jack Ryan, a republican who tried to get her to go with him to swing clubs. She refused and divorced him and the scandal forced him to drop out of a senatorial race in total humiliation.
This allowed Barack Obama to run practically unopposed thus becoming the Junior Senator from Illinois which led to his run for the Presidency.

I remember the scandal you mentioned.
Jeri Ryan was also in another scifi show that was pretty good and quite original called Dark Skies. From the early 90's or late 80's

She was a class act and pure joy. And, she changed the world.

(5,644 posts)he was the up and coming handsome Republican, and Jerri Ryan was not going to permit that. So, thank you Seven for taking that weirdo off the ballot.
ETA: Seven of Nine, one of my favorite characters on Star Trek: Voyager!
