trump tells Reno how to pronounce Nevada.

New York native Donald Trump's latest campaign swing through Nevada included a lecture to supporters at a rally in Reno about the correct way to pronounce the name of their state. He insists it's "Neh-VAH-da."

The Republican presidential candidate performed an exaggerated form of his preferred his pronunciation from the stage at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center Wednesday afternoon.

He declared that "nobody says it the other way."

The confused silence from the crowd mixed with a few shouts of disagreement indicated that quite a few Nevadans pronounce their home state "Neh-VAD-uh.

American Bridge, a group that supports Hillary Clinton, immediately put up a web video declaring that Trump was "looking like an idiot" for getting the name wrong

except for virtually everyone in Reno

what a fucking idiot

almost everybody who lives here says Nev-ADD-uh. He really shouldn't lecture a crowd of locals on how to pronounce the name of their own state.

I wish I could say I'm shocked by his arrogance...but..we are talking about Donald Trump

Ne-vad-a -- the rest of the country? Informed people know that's how it's pronounced. Anglicized Spanish terms are very common in the US. Respecting how locals use language is key. Trump? Telling an entire state that it's wrong. What an ass! Hope it cost him a few votes!

I'm a lifetime resident of Utah, been to Nevada many times. Even Chris Matthews gets it right now. Took him a long time.

Shows that Trump has no interest in the US.

There is little that irks me more than people mispronouncing the state's name AFTER they've been informed of the correct pronunciation. Speaking as a Nevadan.

When the Spanish first came through, they named it Nevada, with Trump's poor Spanish pronunciation. The word, however, has been anglicized and is no longer the Spanish word for "snowy" and is, instead, a place name. Even the Latinos here don't say it with the ah sound.

Nevada, pronounced like the a in "Trump's an Asshole."

Sometimes when people react to him saying, 'How stupid does he think we are?' -- like when he tried to take credit for Pence debate with lines that were obvious "sales" attempts and then this Nevada thing -- sometimes I think it reflects his lack of intelligence.

Seriously.

I think he cannot come up with more sophisticated ways of trying to convince people to vote for him or that he's smart or that he didn't make a mistake pronouncing Nevada. There is not a higher intelligence or sophistication gear for him to shift into. And he knows that if someone else used similar lines, they would work on him.
