I know we are all thinking of and saddened for

all the Floridians, those who have evacuated and all who do not know if they will have homes after tomorrow. And we are hoping that our friends and families, the DUers, and all will be safe in this awful storm. Many of us remember well Andrew, Charley, and what Florida has suffered in the past.

My place is in Jax and rated for a 6' surge. It's calling for maybe a 10 foot surge.

According to the latest weather, just now at 11:22pm, the storm is tracking more to the east. This is better news for Jax. Still, I'm a wreck. They are several miles west of Jax Beach.

and it looks like most of the weather forecasters are expecting the eye to go over my dad's old house. The whole area will likely flood but the houses are cinderblock construction so they'll still have walls, at the very least. It's going to be a horrible mess, though.

I have extended family in West Palm and cousins in Charleston.

My niece is in Tampa, so she should be fine.

Looks like the worst of it will be north of there. Right now they're getting heavy rain and winds but not hurricane-force.

Because of lack of refrigeration. I have gone the generator route but it takes lots of gas, ran out twice and was on the third fill and was lucky it was cool at night and did not need it. I was also 50 miles inland.

Grocery stores and gas stations are required to have generators for emergencies like hurricanes. That way people can get supplies - if they have functioning vehicles (that have not been flooded) and if the roads are clear.

Our house was built in 1963 & has survived every hurricane since then, including 2004 when the worst damage was losing shingles, so I'm hopeful that when I get home the worst I'll have is some roof/leak repair. I'm sure our old wood fences will be blown over, but they were already wobbly & needed to be replaced, so we'll put up new fences.

We may catch a break. Looks it may stay just off shore soaring the coast the worst of it. 11:00pm update. Rain like hell here for 4 hours. Just breezy but expecting 60 mph.

Just after midnight, still have power, internet, and tv antenn signal. The forecast for southern Brevard county is looking better now. Downgraded to category 3, slight eastern shift in the storm path. North Brevard and Volusia counties are gonna get the brunt of this.

My heart, and my thoughts, are with those who are safe and wondering about their homes, AND with those who didn't make it out, for all their reasons.
