(916 posts)the nation. It's a fine school despite its southern location that many on DU despise so vey much.
(Many students from UNC are from other parts of the country, btw.)
Hopefully they will get the free speech issues sorted out at UNC-CH despite being so very southern and backwards and racist. Because EVERYBODY in the South is a knuckle-dragging racist with a confederate flag on their mobile home. (My turn to use the tag now.) Only one really broad brush required!
Obama was in Greensboro today. Said lots of gracious and friendly things about NC. Bless him. We could all take a page out of his book--including ME! (Barack wouldn't have had such a fit.)
I'm a pissed-off Southern liberal. Tired of getting it from both the conservatives AND the folks on our side.
Last time I looked NC was a very encouraging shade of Tar Heel blue on 538. But yeah, it's all about "the South shall rise again."
Rant over. Cooling-off commencing.

(18,124 posts)in the new nazi party of amerikkka who are voting for their trumpenfuhrer, of which the confederate flag flyier is a part of, are "knuckle dragging racists" and ARE hoping their leader can make the south rise again along with the north, east and west.

(26,076 posts)The "Berkeley of the East." This is literally one of the bluest areas in the entire country, one of teh bluest and best universities in the entire country. I know people whose families wouldnt pay for them to go to Carolina because it was "UNC-Commie Hill."
It is so stupid and uninformed to made these blanket statement about the South.

(18,124 posts)about the people, millions by the way, who will vote for the new fuhrer in this 21st century. They are racist, period. These type of people of the south brought derision and scorn upon themselves. A blue university does not a state make. It's quite the opposite I would say with surety. I will continue to make "blanket statements" as long as people are wearing that blanket anywhere, especially in the south. Oh and by the way they lost the first civil war and seem to be agitating, along with their nationwide brethren, for another. IAMSICK of these cockroaches, millions by the way, that have come out of the woodwork and are spreadinng disease and infection everywhere. I AM SICK AND TIRED ALSO!!!!!!! 7+ years of open racist hatred, bigotry, summary executions, murder in churches by citizens and state authorities alike culminating in this dangerous buffoonish clown as an actual contender for POTUS. I'm fucking tired and totally pissed.

(42,757 posts)But shouldn't the school administrators consider how it offends so many people?
I mean shouting fire in a crowded theatre and all that.

(53,956 posts)There are more than a few who do not give a shit about the anti-Semitic overtones, and others who drone on and on about "rehabilitating" the swastika. TBH, I am surprised they haven't shown up yet.

(20,686 posts)Because students are required to be there, offensive and disruptive symbols and slogans and images can be limited to outside the school property.
Because students are in such close proximity, and because they are in attendance as children without their parents, free speech is not the same as in the general public.
I wouldn't send my child to a school where that symbol was allowed on display. It implies hatred, prejudice and aggression.
There are undoubtably jewish students on campus who will have to live with that symbol of their attempted destruction.
That school should be ashamed of themselves.
I'll expect that there will be protests, and that's not a great use of their time, considering the cost of college these days.
I think it will eventually have to be removed because of student objectives.

(1,241 posts)To visit the "Topography of Terror", that was once the nerve center for the Gestapo.
It was chilling.
It was beyond despicable.
It disgusts me to see a Nazi flag.
People that do this are truly deplorable.
