General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe die-hard Trumpsters are 100% convinced that
they are in the majority. They have been fed on hate radio, and now streaming hate, exclusively, for decades. We know his biggest group is under educated, and hurting economically. They have been told who to blame and they believe it to their very core.
How do we get them back out into the world that actually exists? How do we introduce them to people who aren't just like them?
Education is the only cure for ignorance.

(25,270 posts)infrastructure and jobs, education and paying down loans, Wall St. reforms and taxing the rich, the economy turning around - these die-hards will begin to see that they were being lied to by hate radio & the Repugs. They will begin to understand who is to blame.

(18,641 posts)In the Bill Clinton years the propagandized anger just kept increasing all during his term.
The right wing elite are going to do everything they can to see that Hillary remains the devil incarnate to the ignorant conservatives. It's the only way the Republicans can get enough votes to compete.
They must hold onto this population with fear and blatant propaganda because once the voters start realizing which party would make their life a little easier the GOP's vote count would tumble.

(6,342 posts)You can talk about common ground and making everyone's live better all you want with healthcare and medicare reforms.
But as soon as you talk about gun control or anything they claim resembles "immigration amnesty" passes, it will lead to incredible division and anger.

(12,634 posts)do everything they can to undermine public education: demonize teachers and their unions, cut taxes, divert what tax money is left to private, religious and "charter" schools, try to control and dumb down textbooks and science curricula, and much more.
A dumb electorate is a Publican electorate.

(12,634 posts)because the leadership establishment, loony and bigoted as they are, aren't loony and bigoted enough for the Trumsters. They're not turning on them because they've come to realize how they've been manipulated all these years.

(12,904 posts)But, if we want to change them, they must be treated with dignity. No name calling, no trash talking, etc.
That kind of thing works to change exactly zero voter's voting habits.
We should help them focus on how we are alike in what we want/need from our government. Education requires patience and dedication, not force and ridicule.
Just my two cents.

(36,509 posts)I don't have the answer, but I know that 18 months of listening to Limbaugh turned my mom into a right winger. The first inkling I had of the change in her was when she started bashing teachers. It went downhill from there. Everyone was to blame except for the lying, manipulative bastards of the GOP.

(182,877 posts)The broadcast of their proven failed ideals give them credibility. TV, like most industries, is a copycat business - as long as Fox stays #1 the others will follow them down rabbit holes endlessly.
The bashing of teachers is clearly an effort to dumb down the population but the root of the attack is racist. I heard this once on talk radio and had to look it up. Teachers union, specifically the NEA, began amongst black educators. You can carry that out along their normal whackadoodle line of thinking.

A HERETIC I AM
(24,376 posts)I saw somewhere - can't remember now where, maybe the Daily Show or Bill Maher - that the average Trump rally attendee makes a comfortable middle class living.
But they are less well educated as a rule and are looking for someone to blame for their lot in life as "frustrated millionaires", as the old saying goes.
