Republican governors across the country have cut funding for public schools. Kids are pushed into private charter schools and sit in front of a computer and take multiple choice quizzes all day. But read a library book and write a book report? Computers don't grade book reports. Memorize Lincoln's Gettysburg address, a speech from Shakespeare, or the preamble to the Canterbury tales. Forget it.

We need to take back and properly fund our public schools.

I read and studied that in high school...

it just came back into my head. I started it again last night.

How lucky I was to have had a good public school education.. in the 1950s.
Well, good compared to now. History was basically European and white American...l but...
Latin, Spanish, Chem, Biology, Algebra, Physics, English Lit, Geometry, Creative Writing, Western Civ., Calculus, shop!, gym, and the field into which I later spent my life, music...
