Indians win, it would be their first in more than 50 years.

But the Phillies went 77 years without winning from the first World Series in 1903 until they finally won in 1980.
Even the Red Sox had only gone 68 years without winning when they came within a strike of victory in 1986.
FYI, the St. Louis Browns never won the World Series. The original Washington Senators won once. The Philadelphia Athletics, the Boston Braves and the Milwaukee Braves all won the World Series as well.
The Montreal Expos might well have won in 1994 had it not been for the strike.

(24,761 posts)Wouldn't it be nice that the same year a woman growing up a Cubs fan as a girl not only becomes President, but also she'd get to host the team she grew up rooting for as World Series champs, at least for her?

(10,500 posts)In 2004 my cousin-in-law, a Yankees fan, rooted for the Red Sox to beat the Yankees and then win the World Series because he thought it might somehow help John Kerry win the election if it was a triumphant year for Boston, his hometown.
I was rooting for the Red Sox, because I wanted them to win, but I dismissed my cousin-in-law's theory as superstition that was not in any way relevant to whether or not Kerry would win.
12 years later I found myself rooting for the Golden State Warriors to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA finals even though I don't really care about basketball. And throughout the MLB postseason I have been rooting for the Cleveland Indians to lose, even though I have nothing against the team or the city. I am paranoid about too much success coming out of Cleveland this year because that is where the GOP convention was held.
Then again, the Republican Convention was a total fiasco so maybe I have nothing to worry about.
