Trump is "The Truman Show" (Jim Carey 1998)

Last edited Sun Oct 23, 2016, 04:02 PM - Edit history (1)

I've made this analogy before. Hopefully this is more fully formed.

What ARE we going to do without our "Trump checks"? Regardless of who people support at least twice a day everyone stops (like a coffee/smoke break) to see WHAT DID HE SAY NOW?!?

There is a comparison to the movie "The Truman Show". It's an omnipresent telecast of one man's life that viewers can't turn away from. Secondary characters change (campaign managers) and despite multiple clues and violent interruptions by everyday outside individuals trying to tell the main character that it's not real, he remains oblivious.

Paramount Pictures took a huge risk on a $60 million "art film" that ended up making $264 million due mostly to the incredible star power of Jim Carrey.

One of the most interesting elements of the story was that Truman had been adopted by a corporation at birth (media covered of Trump throughout his campaign) and he became their product. As much as they profited they were also dependent on him.

The catch phrase that lured people to keep watching was "HOW WILL IT END?" (Election Day, ?). It finally ends when Truman strays too far from control and punctures the horizon. His sailboat, at the will of the wind that is not fully controllable by The Creator, literally punches through the fake limit of the giant dome TV set that Truman has always known as the world. He finds that he is actually in a bubble.

The control of a corporation over one (or many) individuals. Truman doesn't have any reason to leave until he wants to chase love.

but I think I will be much happier without knowing what Trump is up to. Truman was way more likely than Trump too.

And Trump's not.

Trump's the Truman Show if The Creator made himself the subject of the show.

The Creator thinks he is the subject because of his level of control. In the end he can't control the wind or love. Two uncontrollable elements.

FYI - Ed Harris replaced Dennis Hopper during filming. Harris toyed with the idea of playing The Creator as a hunchback.

With aplomb and grace.
