BREAKING: Clarence Thomas Does The UNTHINKABLE, Turns Against Republican Party (DETAILS)

Thomas was responding to a question about whether or not he has any hope for the confirmation process being salvaged any time soon when he delivered what became a biting criticism of the GOP establishment.
He began with a sort of hollow optimism, saying, Theres always hope, but this city is broken in some ways.
He went on to become more pointed in his remarks, saying:
Thomas himself bore the brunt of a brutal confirmation hearing at the time of his nomination to the court by then president George H.W. Bush.
The difference, though, between the circumstances surrounding Thomass seating on the court and those surrounding Obamas nomination of Merrick Garland for the same is simple.
Senate Republicans have shown presently themselves completely unwilling to, as Thomas put it, do anything other than simply annihilate Garland since he doesnt quite line up with their beliefs and practices.
Check out a video of Thomass biting remarks below (at link).

(2,535 posts)I like him bringing up how many years he has spent on the bench. We need to nominate teenagers.

(28,257 posts)Clarence Thomas lied, then played the "hi-tech lynching" race card, and ended up a mute figure on the Supreme Court. Fuck him, now and forever more. His whining about personal annihilation is repulsive---personal annihilation is exactly what got him to his lofty position. God bless Anita Hill.

Doesn't his loving wife head up a GOPer teahadist group that does this very thing that he condemns? Annihilate the 'enemy'?

A woman is accusing Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of having groped her in 1999.
According to a report published Thursday by the National Law Journal/Law.com, Moira Smith, 41, alleged that Thomas repeatedly squeezed her butt during a dinner nearly 20 years ago.
Smith, vice president and general counsel at Enstar Natural Gas Co. in Alaska, was a Truman Foundation scholar helping Louis Blair, who directed the foundation at the time, prepare for a dinner at Blairs home in Falls Church, Virginia, with Thomas and David Adkins as the featured guests. Thomas was to present Adkins, then a Kansas state lawmaker as well as a former Truman scholar, an award at the Supreme Court the following day.

(246 posts)I don't see anything in the quoted remarks of Thomas criticizing Republicans. It's just more nonsense "both sides do it".

(12,631 posts)The rabid right thinks they're the victims, and he could just as easily be still feeling sorry for himself. He'd have to be a lot more explicit before I'd write what the author of the quoted header did.

(11,738 posts)I have to preface this by saying that I could not view the video due to a technical error so I did not get the full remarks.
I think that it can certainly be interpreted as Thomas ironically implicating the Republicans in Congress, but I very much doubt that he would specifically state the they were undermining institutions. Thomas is a conservative first and a Supreme Court Justice second.
I would interpret his statement more closely to what his consistent behavior suggests, that he was still whining about the confirmation hearings he went through.
Like I said, I could be wrong and he may have explicitly called out the Republicans for not even allowing people the ordeal of a confirmation hearing, but I certainly did not get that from the article and think that it is wishful thinking on the author's part without more explicit information about the remarks.
