I recall that the information was out there before Nixon won the election but people were not willing to accept it.
There was a small grocery store in our neighborhood and I remember having a discussion with two guys, named Arnold and Red, about what was going on with break-ins and CIA , etc. This was before the election in 1972. They laughed it off. I see similar attitudes right now.
There is a big story out there but I'm not sure enough people will hear it before the election.

(46,094 posts)didn't believe it either. She consistently urged Nixon to fight the accusations.
She was devastated to accept the truth and then of course, John tried to have her committed to a mental institution when she was leaking to the WP.

(4,305 posts)She died of cancer, didn't she? And wasn't there some story that John kept their daughter from visiting her in the hospital? It seemed to me that she was perhaps somewhat naïve. I remember an interview in which she talked about hoping John would use his position to help needy people. After she learned the truth about Watergate, she kept trying to get the truth out to the public. She was a courageous lady, and she seemed to be a true patriot.

(38,421 posts)I knocked on a door, and told a fellow about the Watergate break in...and...he slammed the door in my face...I will never forget that one.
I was ridiculed for bringing it up.

(15,262 posts)It was unfathomable that people re-elected Nixon. Still wonder how they got away with all the dirty tricks. And to think, some of those Nixon soldiers are now working for Trump!

(128,926 posts)There is a shitload more media and communications outlets than what was around 45 years ago! I think it's more that people have so many other issues on their minds that they often tune it out. Only a small portion of the country pay very close attention to political machinations.

(2,535 posts)because I didn't get the information anyway. I lived in west Texas and good newspapers cost an arm and a leg to get. I was thrilled when I was able to get the weekly edition of the Washington Post.

Friends said there was nothing to it.
"Both sides do it."
I said if so, the Democrats must be a lot better at it because they don't get caught.
