OUAB Presents: Breaking the Silence with Edward Snowden
Time: Wednesday, November 30, 2016 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Location: Ohio Union Archie Griffin Grand Ballroom (Ohio State)
In a growing world of technology and mass surveillance, private information is more transparent than ever. A subject of controversy, former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) employee, Edward Snowden, is infamously known for exposing documents containing vast information on the NSA's domestic surveillance practices in 2013. Snowdens acts of espionage have been deemed unlawful by the US government issuing warrants of arrest. Yet Mr. Snowden believes rather than trying to change society, he wants to give society a chance to determine if it should change itself. Now, the man of mystery is hunkering down in an undisclosed location in Russia, a country that has granted him temporary political asylum. Edward Snowden has adopted a variety of names - a hero, a whistleblower, a dissident, a patriot and a traitor. While he may live in Russia, Snowdens legacy lives on the internet, a global landscape that is accessible to all.
