The Cleome (2nd picture) should be long gone from frost, since it is a very high profile flower.

(28,394 posts)I still have zinnias, cosmos, marigolds, ageratums, and lots more. I am still collecting seeds for next spring.
The only thing that was zapped by early light frost was the coleus.

(26,262 posts)I let the snapdragons re-seed themselves and have actually had a little luck with the sweet alyssum coming back. My cosmos, bachelor buttons and larkspur were pretty spectacular, this year. I had to think them out, like crazy, this year.

(112 posts)Longest growing season in history, as of this week-end.
Enjoy!

(9,760 posts)had a hard frost a couple of weeks ago.
Here in the SE part of Chester County, I've been moving potted stuff under cover when close-to-freezing overnight temps have been predicted, but most of the stuff in the ground, annuals and perennials, has been fine anyway.

(26,262 posts)The red one next to the garage is full of blooms, but it is pretty protected. I'll cut the buds, if the temperatures start to drop, but it looks like we will be above freezing, for at least the next week. Certainly not typical Michigan weather!

(28,017 posts)Our tomatoes are still appearing and growing. IN FUCKING NOVEMBER. We have a magical collection of raspberries. They start producing fruit in June, but they don't stop. Often, you get one, maybe two batches from a bush. Not these. Constant blooms and berries through november. They are STILL producing more baby rasps.
And our roses? Blooming better than ever.

(962 posts)I was raised to expect an encounter with serpents in any area that hasn't been disturbed in a while.
No venomous snakes now that I'm here in Portland, thankfully.

(26,262 posts)I haven't seen any in my gardens, but wouldn't mind if I did. I have zero fear of snakes, but seeing a spider (especially those GIGANTIC garden type spiders) sends me dashing for protection. I've been shamed out of killing them with any handy pointy stick of death that I can lay my hands on, so you can always tell where I've seen one in a web, because the weeds aren't touched.

(22,670 posts)Thanks for keeping up such a beautiful flower garden. I'm sure my recently hatched female Monarch will be much appreciative.
My Monarch caterpillar is hatching at this very moment, right on schedule.

(15,805 posts)I've never even heard of a Cleome. It looks beautiful, like something magical. Thanks for sharing your photos, out here in the land of sand and Joshua Trees, its a real treat.

(26,262 posts)As they keep growing taller, the old blooms produce the seed pods you see sticking out from the stem and the new growth form more flower buds. They start blooming at about a foot, and I have some that are about 4' tall, now. They remind me of fireworks.
