Tennessee student suspended for taking extra chicken nugget

A Tennessee Eagle Scout and band captain was suspended earlier this week for theft of property after he bought an extra chicken nugget in the lunch line.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Farragut High School senior Carson Koller was served with a one-day suspension after he took six chicken nuggets in the school’s cafeteria, despite the fact that only five nuggets come in a meal.

According to his mother, Carrie Koller Waller, Koller mistakenly grabbed six chicken nuggets from the lunch line and was charged for the mistake. She then said Koller was pulled aside, asked for his name and told to go speak with the principal.

“Everything on his tray was paid for prior to walking away,” Koller Waller wrote on Facebook.

From the mom's FB page:

**UPDATE** Principal Siebe addressed my letter promptly and, after additional investigation, quickly lifted Carson's suspension. Honestly, I appreciate the way Siebe handled this. He was very willing to review the situation and make things right. Carson only missed part of his first class today.

all day at school. Most of the kids are, they say. The portions aren't large enough and they blame Michelle Obama for it. I thought she just introduced salads and healthy food to the schools, but they've just cut the portions and started giving them a couple of pieces of lettuce with some thousand island dressing dumped on it.

If unhealthy portions in other parts of their lives leaves them feeling hungry after having a healthy portion, then the problem is the unhealthy aspects of their lives.

It didn't show, and I always got as much as I wanted at school. They certainly would never have suspended me for BUYING extra food. They would have sold me another lunch if I wanted it.

Lunch was 25 cents at the cafeteria. Seconds were free, and you could go back through the line with your tray and get them. I always had seconds on whatever was on the menu. I was a tall, skinny kid with a metabolism that wouldn't stop.

The lunch ladies would load up your plate with just a little encouragement. They wanted the kids to eat as much as they wanted.

and we were all healthy weight. I think people like my close friend are the ones that need the strict nutritional help, because he just ballooned up all year long, year after year. I think as long sodium, saturated fat and sugar levels are reduced, kids should be able to eat a 'good-sized' portion as you said. Our mom always said that once we hit 10 or so, we ate her out of house and home... lol

We need better quality food for the kids, not skimping on portions. We should be able to give farmers subsidies for growing more healthy veggies and raising livestock that's not fed garbage. We ate pretty well at my high school, and it was generally healthy. When we had gumbo, they even put some shrimp in it.

I think. The kids apparently think that Michelle Obama's efforts to get healthier food in the schools caused this. They're getting shitty food with a so-called salad. I've heard the same thing from a lot of kids, and it would probably be a good idea for Democrats to address this misconception.

nutrition in the schools, not starve them. A lot of kids seem to be under the impression that she thinks they're all too fat. I blame rw adults telling them that shit. This is Mississippi.

My nephew was once suspended from high school. The charge? "Attempted theft of a cookie." He had paid for his lunch, eaten it, and then picked up a cookie from the "a la carte" tray, intending to take it to the cash register and pay for it. Instead, he was accosted by school staff who accused him of trying to steal it. He should have paid for it FIRST, and then picked up the actual item, apparently.

His suspension was only for the rest of the day, so by the time I heard of it (he lived with me) it was too late to do much of anything about it. I get the need to enforce rules and proper protocol, etc... but, almost a decade later, his nefarious "Attempted Theft of a Cookie" from the high school lunch line still cracks me up to this day.

In my school district are way more food than I can eat. I think it's so that all the growing kids will get enough.
