WHEN BARACK OBAMA leaves the White House, New York Sen. Chuck Schumer will almost certainly be elected Senate minority leader and therefore become the highest ranking Democratic official in America.
Thats a terrible roll of the dice for Democrats, because Schumer might as well have been grown in a lab to be exactly the wrong face for opposition to Donald Trump:
Schumer, whos just about to turn 66, grew up in Brooklyn and went to the same high school as Bernie Sanders. Then their lives diverged: Schumer, the smartiest of the smartypants, got a perfect score on the SATs and then went to Harvard and Harvard Law School. He was elected to the New York State Assembly at 23, the U.S. Congress at 29, and the U.S. Senate at 47. Hes never had any adult job outside elected office.
He possesses the same impressive political acumen as Hillary Clintons 2016 campaign, sagely explaining For every blue-collar Democrat we lose in western Pennsylvania, we will pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs in Philadelphia, and you can repeat that in Ohio and Illinois and Wisconsin.

First off, the job of Senate minority leader is not about ideology. Glenwald and his ilk don't know anything about basic civics. If Schumer can get the Dems to unify around legislation and has the support of the majority of the Senate, then I support him. I do not support someone who is not a Democrat and has virtually no experience putting together coalitions to get legislation passed. The job is not about entertainment, it's behind the scenes work. That concept of working behind the scenes rather than playing to the cameras is lost on some.

If they stick with Schumer I won't be surprised if the Democrats keep losing the election.
The election came down to rust belt states, Trump said in the first debate, "we're getting killed on trade." You don't think that had anything to do with it? Don't blame me, I voted for Clinton in Arizona.
