SACRAMENTO — An early look at California’s 2018 gubernatorial election shows Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom leading the field of declared and likely candidates to replace Gov. Jerry Brown, a Field Poll released Monday found.

Twenty-three percent of the state’s registered voters favor the former San Francisco mayor, a Democrat who is running for the seat. San Diego Republican Mayor Kevin Faulconer came in second, with 16 percent of voters saying they would like to see him elected governor. Fresno Republican Mayor Ashley Swearengin placed third among preferred candidates with 11 percent. Faulconer and Swearengin have been rumored to be considering a run but have not yet jumped into the race.

Other likely and declared candidates include Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, 7 percent; former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, 6 percent; environmentalist Tom Steyer, 5 percent; Secretary of State Alex Padilla, 4 percent; state Treasurer John Chiang, 2 percent; and former state Controller Steve Westly, 1 percent.

A quarter of voters said they are undecided in the 2018 race to replace the termed-out Brown.

And Newsom's zipper problem ended him with marrying the woman he had the affair with, and they now have 3 children.

It happened 8 years ago.

and yes it was some time ago, but pukes have loooong memories for those things. I think he would be a great governor, btw.

when their leader is 100% as bad? Doesn't make sense.
That's why he should run for President, and not Governor IMO!

Evidently swing states don't give a hoot about that kind of thing!

he cheated on his first wife but their marriage seemed to already be having issues and they divorced.

it's not really fair to say he has a zipper problem unless there are some other things .

i held that against him also but he has proven himself to be a good public official and i plan to support him if he runs.

Because as a Black Woman, for 2020 (which should not be confused with 2018), we need to find a handsome White Man who is taller than Trump, better looking than Trump, younger than Trump, badder boy than Trump, who talks more shit than Trump, and who is more charismatic than Trump, and has wayyyy better hair and has the "cool" factor" !

It doesn’t matter if said good looking bad ass White boy has “scandals” in his past, as long as the scandals deal only with sex from some time ago. It doesn’t matter what part of the country he is from, and it doesn’t matter how many times he has been married, as long as he’s got a beautiful wife under his arm at the time that he runs!

His politics should be populist in nature, and he should be fresh on the political scene, but with a good liberal track record.

He won’t be pure, cause no one is…
