The republicans said that the people should decide who should be on the supreme court. Well, the people have spoken and democrats are holding + 1 million (I have not checked the latest number) in the popular vote. So the American people have spoken, and they want a democrat to appoint the next supreme court justice.
I have contacted both of my Senators.

(14,918 posts)futile, I'm not going to go quietly on this one. Barack Obama had his presidential prerogative usurped; his rightful Supreme Court appointment was stolen and handed over to an ignorant, misogynistic, racist serial perpetrator of sexual assault who was NOT elected by a majority of the popular vote. Both of my senators are Republicans, so I am not optimistic of a fair vote from them, but they need to hear how reprehensible their refusal to even hold hearings is to their constituents. Even Mitch McConnell evaded a reporter's question about whether he found the appointment of Steve Bannon to the transition team appropriate. McConnell and anyone who goes along with giving Obama's "draft pick" to Donald Putin, knowing his abysmal lack of morals and judgment, is beyond contempt.

(9,696 posts)nomination is not wholly unconstitutional. Barack Obama had his presidential prerogative usurped - was that consitutional?
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)that President Obama should appoint a Supreme Court justice (outside of a recess appointment, of course) is making the case for a wholly unconstitutional act. He simply can't do it.
And while the Republican obstructionism with regards to taking up the nomination is wrong, it is not unconstitutional. There is no time limit to which the Senate is held, after which a President can just say "screw it, I'm making the appointment".

(9,696 posts)That is not what I am suggesting.

(7,290 posts)I've seen so many of the "just do it, President Obama" posts here and in other forums, I made a bad assumption.
My apologies.
