Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday made it clear to his party and allies that the government felt the people were supporting its demonetisation move. As the government refused to consider a rollback, a report say currency normalisation may take four months, and not 50 days as the government claims.

That may take a huge toll on people given there have already been 25 deaths due to demonetisation in just 6 days. These are just the reported deaths, the real number could be more.

My friends there say it's absolute chaos. They simply did not distribute enough of the new and small bills.

Up to 50,000 people were expected on Wednesday at the sprawling Bangalore Palace, a mock Tudor castle in southern India, to celebrate the wedding of Gali Janardhan Reddy’s daughter, who was married in a Hindu ceremony earlier in the day.

Local media criticised the extravagance at a time when many Indians are struggling to find the cash to buy food following the government’s move to pull high-value notes out of circulation in an attempt to tackle tax evasion.
