Are we witnessing the beginning of the end?

With a tRump administration I fear for our national security but most of all the world's.

I fell asleep last night thinking of the real possibility of what a reactionary tRump administration could do with nuclear weapons and the chain reaction that would produce.

I do not think I'm being paranoid.
I refuse to hide my head in the sand.

If there is an after-life. If there is something after this then I hope the direction of my soul is sufficient enough to propel me millions of light years away from these hateful violent beings I barely recognize anymore.

When it comes to what Trump will do, ask, "How does this benefit Putin?"

Dump the ACA? Probably not. Killing millions might get noticed. Besides, there are plenty of wing-nuts eager to shoot other Americans and Trump would escape the blame.

Undermine NATO? Thumbs up on that one!

There are things that Putin wants, and stuff he doesn't care about.

And Trump will be his poodle.

It's the talk of a Muslim registry and possible internment camps. And what he could do on the home front. Trump supporters want to overturn parts of the constitution like freedom of speech and religion. And if they get the SCOTUS justice(s) they want they could do it.

Coupled with the idea that half of the right-wing Evangelicals (I'm a Christian, but I am NOT one of them!!!!) want to create the end times, I see your assessment as not only logical, but probable.

My minister (Presbyterian USA) feels the Evangelicals, Fundies, and followers of the "Prosperity Gospel" have co-opted the word "Christian" so much, that she feels more comfortable calling herself a "Christ follower".

We had a really interesting private non-church meeting last Sunday after church. There were some tears shed for what might come, and what opportunities for our country were wasted over the past 8 yrs. We have a very liberal congregation and several headed out to grab a coffee and start the discussion of how to come to grips with the election outcome and how do we as a country move forward. She reminded us that Jesus was a protester.

I don't agree with very much of what the "Evangelicals" want for this country. In my view, Jesus was not only a protestor, but he was all-inclusive. I am a "red letter Christian".

Thank you for your post. I'm glad to learn that you are part of a progressive congregation. My opinion is that, over the next four years, the fundies are going to be called out for that which they are - major hypocrites. They have hijacked Christianity, and made hate and fear mongering a part of their belief system.

To me, that's not what it's all about.

Trump doesn't have the temperament to be trusted with the nuclear football.

It's far too easy for a POTUS to launch nuclear missiles. If some people think "others" will stop it from happening in a nick of time, they're deluding themselves.

Do they think Hillary was lying when she said the orders will be carried out in about 4 minutes? Well, she wasn't.

What's insane to me is that we've allowed one person to have that much control.

Who can exercise control over him if he does something reckless?

He is commander-in-chief so the Joint Chiefs report to him. The FBI and soon the Justice Dept. will be run by his cronies. Congress is now pretty much controlled by the lapdogs who supported (or refused to stop) him. Is there anyone who can take the reins and stop him from destroying us and the country?

I have two baby grand daughters who will inherit the detritus of his reign. We are still dealing with the after-effects of reagan and the bushes.

There are still enough sane people high up in the military (Oaf-keeper/Air Force Academy brainwashing not withstanding) that the Joint Chiefs and other Security Council staff members would be very hard pressed to allow the current President-elect (or VP-elect) access to the "football" when in the grips of a fit of pique or butt-hurt.

What you're seeing is a large number of people who are culturally agoraphobic. They don't want to go through with the change they're going to have to if the country as a whole is going to survive and potentially, and are kicking and screaming because they want to hang on to what was comfortable and familiar to them - even in the face of the rest of the world leaving them behind.

These people would rather live in a devastated third world country than give up any bit of what they consider control. Unfortunately, these cultural Luddites can't just retreat to some distant frontier and "make their fortunes - or die trying". (They are also too willfully ignorant to realize how many of them would die horribly and young without a modern infrastructure to support them.)

And like a petulant 5-year old who is convinced s/he is the only real thing in the universe, they'd still bitch about how it was all those other people who made them tear down their supporting infrastructure and safety nets, those other people made them poor and took away all their opportunities - while they sat back and acted against their own best interests because they didn't want to share the greater world around them with those other people.

I'd feel sorry for them - if they weren't also intent on murdering their perceived competition and burning down the world around them in spite.

we thought to be true about our country and the people in it. It is the end of a feeling of safety because the narcissist will think of himself first and not the country and the people in it. It is a march to the end of a human life supporting planet.
My childhood as for many others was one of bomb shelters and air raid practices so that possibility has never been far from my mind - my whole life!

With the rise to power of Trump and fascists in this country and Europe I think humanity is rapidly reaching our extinction event.

Trump loves nukes and loves war and says if we got them why not use them?

Talk about a Darwin award winner! Folks I give you a country that elected Donald J Trump as its next President!

Why are we going backwards instead of forward? Not one step or two but miles backwards-here we are fighting Russia and neo-Naz's and someone for president that SERIOUSLY you would not let babysit your children. I am not getting over it.

I think he's a danger. I think we're in more danger of being nuked to kingdom come than at any time since the Cold War ended. However, I don't think we're in more danger than during the Cold War, and we managed to survive that.

I think the greater danger is of his unleashing and encouraging hateful and xenophobic movements worldwide; of his bankrupting America as predicted in 'The Simpsons'(!) with knock-on effects on other countries; of his getting too cosy with Putin and weakening NATO and destabilizing Europe and the West, and all the sorts of things that people were once paranoid that the left would do.

Regardless, he's bloody scary!
