Last Tango in Berlin

Here is the take of the conservative (real meaning, not "radical Republican&quot newspaper in Düsseldorf
of Barack Obama's lat visit to Germany as the sitting President of the United States:

1. Moved from Duesseldorf back to the USA in 2005 with my wife and 2 little boys

If Trump becomes Der Fuehrer II, we will move those fighting-aged boys right back to the land of Altbier.

One of our daughters lives in Manhattan. The other got an incredibly high-paying (high six figures!) job in Frankfurt, and was hoping to be transferred to the head office in New York City some day. Now, she is in no rush.

I hope you were able to get your boys dual citizenship. Because my wife is German, and because I did the necessary paperwork when they were born, our girls got lifetime dual citizenship from birth.

3. Yes, my mother is German, and she obtained dual citizenship for me and my brother in the 70's

Crazy thing is, I didn't realize it until the mid-90's. Had a very successful real estate law practice in the States when I discovered my secret designation. In an act of sheer craziness, we sold everything and moved to Germany in 1998. My boys were born there and, yes, both are dual citizens.

I've got mixed emotions as to whether a return to the USA in 2005 was the right move. With the election, I'm beginning to rue the decision.

4. If you have dual citizenship, the option is always open, and the euro is low right now

The Euro is only about $1.06, so things aren't as crazy expensive as they were (I am paid in dollars). But I keep almost all of my assets in the States due to the local authorities here taking the attitude that "Enteignung" is still a legitimate form of raising revenue.
