AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) Companies in the CSRA and across the United States have less than a month to figure out how to respond to the new overtime law.
It means more money for millions of workers. Overtime pay must be given to people at a certain income level who work more than 40 hours a week. For some, if it does not equal more pay it means you work fewer hours.
University of South Carolina Upstate Human Resources Director Dagmara Bruce told WSPA, Theyre going to be like, get to work.
Your work flow could be changing in about two weeks or your salary.
The Fair Labor Standards Act goes in effect December 1 and it means both employees and employers must be in compliance.
If you make less than $47,476/year or $913/week, you must now become an hourly employee according to the Presidential mandate. It would mean that you would become overtime eligible after your weekly time card reaches 40 hours.

(1,920 posts)Dive Brief:
* The scheduled hearing over the motion for preliminary injunction for the FLSA overtime rule will take place Nov. 16, Politico reported. It is scheduled just over two weeks before the Dec. 1 deadline.
* U.S. District Court Judge Amos L. Mazzant III was appointed by President Barack Obama, who originally called for the rule change, causing court experts to claim that it is unlikely the injunction will pass, Maynard Cooper Gale notes in its report.
* President-elect Donald Trump has not said specifically what he will do about the overtime rule changes, Politico reported. In the past, he has called for a potential small business exemption or a delay for certain types of businesses of the rule's implementation.
I'm really, really hoping that the new law is upheld, and that the next administration doesn't reverse it. This is one of the things that I'm most grateful to President Obama for... this change to the overtime regulations has been a long time coming.

The call for preliminary injunction is likely the last stand for opponents of the rule. Bills exist in Congress to delay the regulations, but it is unlikely they will be passed before the deadline. Even if they did, President Obama would veto any such legislation that made it to his desk.

Laxalt said that the rule would put a burden on private and public sectors by straining budgets and forcing layoffs.
This rule, pushed by distant bureaucrats in D.C., tramples on state and local government budgets, forcing states to shift money from other important programs to balance their budgets, including programs intended to protect the very families that purportedly benefit from such federal overreach, Laxalt said in a statement.
Filing the suit in the Eastern Texas District was a strategic move; that district is known as a rocket docket court where cases move along quickly.
The states of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin are all hoping that this will end quickly.
Figures that Michigan would be part of the opposition -- it's my state. It used to be a good one.

(14,853 posts)I once had a job as a salaried "working supervisor," and I made less money per hour than any of the technicians under me. I did the same work as them, plus the statistical analysis and management responsibilities. It was their overtime pay, that I didn't get despite my longer hours, that made their jobs more lucrative.
Oh, well. I knew the score when I accepted the job, and it was better than my previous job working with splashing hydrofluoric acid and risking death from blood calcium depletion.
